About this app

ASL Speed Spell allows American Sign Language learners to improve their fingerspelling speed. Whether you're newer to the ASL alphabet or have been studying for years, this app can help learners at all levels understand fingerspelling faster and with better accuracy.

Why is this app different from the rest? Each fingerspelled word is individually recorded as its own video, so you can watch smoothly fingerspelled words at the speed of your choice. Plus, you can choose among several categories, like 'names', 'animals', and 'countries', to help add context to the word. Practice every day to watch your fingerspelling skills bloom!

App Features:
- Practice fingerspelling over 500 words, each with their own video.
- Can't figure out the answer? Replay the video, or 'give up' to see what the word was.
- Adjust the speed of your practice - from Beginner all the way up to Expert.
- Choose which category of words you want to practice, so you have context behind the word.
- Forget how to sign a letter? The ā€˜alphabet’ page shows you each letter from multiple perspectives, including common variations.
- The Statistics page helps you keep track of your streaks, word counts, and more.
- Adjust your settings for daily practice reminders, statistics, and more.
- Not a fan of ads? A small one-time in-app purchase removes ads from the app forever.

One of the most helpful tools for upping my fingerspelling game. I hate ads, but these are not too bad and easy to close. I only wish the ads didn't play sound. I seriously appreciate the one-time purchase for ad-free, I'm sick of subscriptions. Happily paid! The videos are smooth and the variation in letter formation helped me a lot. The daily practice reminders are unobtrusive and help keep me on-task. But I wish the notification bar icon was easier to see.

I love this app. It's very helpful. I don't know or recognize a few words, but you know what, that's perfectly okay. It helps me practice sounding out each letter to figure out what word it is. I won't know every word a person fingerspells to me, so this is wonderful practice. I like how I can change the level of difficulty as well as choose a category of words I want to practice. There are ads, but not an overwhelming amount even with it set at "more ads." It's perfect, thank you!

I'm learning ASL and fingerspelling receptivity is an area I'm less confident about, so I'm glad I found this app. The app is simple, but the targeted practice is so helpful, and I can feel a difference in my comprehension already. I like that it has quick sessions, perfect for downtime like waiting for the bus or while on a break from work. It also keeps track of your practice streak! I do wish it tracked the number of replays per session (may be an indicator that I can go up in speed)

So glad you're enjoying the app! I like your idea to track replays - I'll put that on my "potential future features" list!

What’s new

- New feature: Onboarding experience for new users
- New feature: Streak updates on the homepage
- Update: Streaks will now update whenever you complete a practice session, even if you used the 'give up' feature on all the words in that practice
- Various smaller bug fixes and UI improvements
