About this app

Chapter 1: Surakshya - A Steadfast Digital Safety Guardian

Introducing Surakshya, a powerful react native application developed specifically for women's safety, security, and welfare. Surakshya is designed with a strong focus on personal safety, offering a range of safety resources for women in an accessible and simplified manner. With this app, we aim to empower women by equipping them with the necessary tools to protect themselves.
Key Features:
Self-Report Crime Incidents Anonymously: Users can anonymously report crime incidents, making valuable contributions to community safety. These self-reported incidents will also be visible on the map, keeping everyone informed about their surroundings.
Crowdsourced Data and Map Visualization: Utilizing crowdsourced data, Surakshya creates a comprehensive map view that visualizes reported incidents, helping users stay informed about the safety of their surroundings. The map visualization also takes into account public access data from online news portals. Surakshya leverages data from Nepal Monitor's dataset on GBV. We thank Nepal Monitor for their valuable contributions in making Surakshya reliable and functional.
Emergency Contact Information: The app includes essential features for emergency situations, providing quick access to call, WhatsApp, Viber, SMS, and allows you to share your location with trusted contacts and reliable helplines.
Hospital and Police Stations Directory: We have added a directory of hospitals and police stations, specifically ones where you can report crimes and file cases, ensuring users can easily find nearby medical and emergency assistance during critical times.
Data Visualizations: Surakshya offers data visualizations to gain insights into safety trends and patterns in the community.

Chapter 2: Incubate Nepal

Surakshya is the result of the hard work and dedication of the talented team at Incubate Nepal, which brought together a group of six talented high schoolers from across Nepal to connect and collaborate. Incubate Nepal is an 8-week virtual program that connects students from all over Nepal to collaborate on open-ended projects. These students are matched with accomplished mentors as they navigate through their projects in small teams.

This program was founded by a group of MIT and Harvard graduates to make project-based learning more accessible to students in Nepal. In addition to connecting students from all over Nepal, this virtual program offers mentorship and exposure to open-ended projects.
