I was crestfallen when Empire Australasia went under last year and was hesitant to get the digital subscription to Empire Mothership because I still prefer to read the magazine in paper form. I needn't have worried. Fantastic layout, intuitive scrolling navigation, and nifty little animated graphics make reading on the app a joy, and mean I never have to worry about missing an ish. Superb.

I've had the Empire print subscription version for a long time. Had a letter to say that my sub had been upgraded and could now access all content on app. However, neither the app nor Greatmagazines.co.uk (who publish Empire) recognise my password. This is despite me changing it (at their insistence). Constant message saying 'password wrong'. Really poor experience so fatr. Real shame as I'm sure I'd use the app a lot.

Fairly functional but missing a lot of quality of life features. It needs a deeper back catalogue and the ability to double-tap to zoom in or out. The capability to fill in the crossword would be good, as would the option to click on a page in the contents and for it to take you there. Hopefully these will be implemented in due course.
