Inkspread: E Ink Comic Reader

About this app

Inkspread opens the comic files you already have on your device. Point it at a folder and it goes through your zip, cbz and pdf files, then groups them into series and volumes.

No comics come with the app, and there is nothing to browse or download. Inkspread is a viewer for files you already own.

GETTING STARTED
1. Open the app and say whether you are on an E Ink reader or a phone.
2. Tap "Choose folder" and pick the folder where you keep your comics.
3. Inkspread reads through it and builds your library. Tap a series to start.

MADE FOR E INK
Animation is turned off so nothing ghosts on the screen, and things are told apart by weight and borders so they stay readable without color. On a phone the same app switches to a color layout with shadows and smooth scrolling.

WHAT IT DOES
• Opens zip, cbz and pdf directly — no unzipping first
• Splits two-page spread scans so you read one page at a time
• Trims the scanner margins so the page fills your screen
• Brightens paper that comes out gray or yellowed
• One page or two pages — you choose, and it never switches on you
• Page turning or vertical scrolling, remembered for each series
• Right to left for Japanese and Korean comics, or left to right
• Map the physical page-turn buttons on your E Ink reader to any action
• Picks series names and volume numbers out of file names, and lets you fix them when it guesses wrong
• Remembers where you stopped in every volume

NOTHING LEAVES YOUR DEVICE
• No permissions asked
• No network connections at all
• No account, no sign-in
• No ads, no tracking, no analytics

Files are read through Android's own file picker, and only from the folder you pick yourself. Your reading position and settings stay on the device.

FILES IT CAN OPEN
• zip and cbz — archives holding images
• pdf
• folders with the images sitting loose inside

CBR (rar) is not supported yet.

LANGUAGES
English, 한국어, 日本語, 简体中文, Español. On Android 13 and up you can set a different language for this app alone, in system settings.
