Most succulents are lost to watering — too much of it, or at the wrong time of year.
CaudexCare is a record book for people growing succulents and caudex plants.
■ Log watering, see what comes next
Log a watering and the app shows days elapsed and a suggested next date,
based on a typical interval for that species. Useful when a plant is new to you.
■ Care guides for 252 species
Pachypodium, Agave, Haworthia, Euphorbia, Adenium, the caudex genera,
Lithops and other mesembs, and cacti — 252 species with care notes
for spring, summer, autumn and winter.
Growth type (summer-, winter- or spring-and-autumn-growing) is researched per species.
Winter growers say plainly that water is withheld entirely through summer,
because watering a winter grower on a summer schedule is how the plant is lost.
■ Photograph the change
Keep growth photos per plant. Once you have two or more, a compare view appears
showing the oldest and newest side by side with the time between them.
■ Observation notes
Write down what you noticed — the day you repotted, the state of the roots,
where the sun scorched a leaf. It becomes that plant's history.
■ Weather-based advice (Japan only)
The app can flag days when watering is better postponed, based on the local forecast.
This uses the Japan Meteorological Agency feed and currently works inside Japan only.
■ A character that grows
Keep recording and a character modelled on your plants grows through five stages.
■ Free, and what Premium adds
Records, care guides, observation notes and growth photos are all free.
Premium (annual) syncs your data across devices, which requires signing in
with an Apple or Google account.
