WHAT IT DOES

PianoDesk is an offline client and instrument record for the working piano
tuner. The history hangs off the instrument, not off the name on the invoice: a
customer can own three pianos, a piano outlives the person who bought it, and
when the house sells the record stays with the piano.

The instrument
- Make, model, serial number, year built and where it sits in the house
- A tuning interval per instrument, because a church piano played weekly, a
teaching studio upright and a bedroom piano nobody opens are not on one clock
- Six months is the default, which is what the piano makers and the Piano
Technicians Guild recommend. A three month setting is offered for a new
instrument still settling, which is roughly four tunings in the first year
- Nothing here is regulatory. No law anywhere sets a tuning interval, and every
screen that touches it says recommended

Pitch, recorded so it still means something in a year
- Cents against A440. Negative is flat, positive is sharp
- Every reading records the note it was taken at, defaulting to A4. A piano has
no single pitch: it can sit at A440 through the middle and be materially flat
in the treble at the same time, because humidity moves the soundboard
unevenly
- A pitch history chart per instrument, which states the note it is plotting
and will not draw a line between readings taken at different notes
- When there is not enough to say, it says so rather than calling a season a
trend
- It never recommends a pitch raise. That turns on the pin block, the strings
and the time you have booked, and the trade sets no threshold anyway

The visit
- What you did: tuning, pitch raise, regulation, voicing, repair or appraisal
- A tuning and a pitch raise set the next tuning date. The others do not, because
you were there but the piano was not brought to pitch
- Found at and left at, time on site, labour charge, parts and materials
- What was done, in your own words

The round
- Recalls, showing who is due and how overdue
- An invoice built from the visit you already wrote down, rather than typed
again
- A digital instrument is never put on the recall list, because it does not go
out of tune
- Backup and restore in one file. It is not part of the paid tier, because your
records are yours

WHO IT IS FOR
- Piano tuners and technicians working for themselves
- Anyone maintaining instruments for schools, churches, studios or halls
- Technicians who want the pitch history to survive a change of owner

WHAT IT DOES NOT DO

It records the work you did and the figures you measured. It never values an
instrument, never judges whether a piano is serviceable, and never recommends a
pitch raise. Registered Piano Technician is a professional credential, not a
government licence, and the app says nothing about anybody's standing. Keeping
the record here reduces the chance of a detail being lost; it does not remove
it.

YOUR RECORDS STAY ON YOUR DEVICE

Clients, instruments, visits and invoices are stored on the phone. There is no
account and no sign in. The app does send crash reports and anonymous usage
statistics, and the standard tier shows ads.
