About this app

WHAT IT DOES

SweepCert is an offline inspection record for the working chimney sweep. It
records what you inspected, what you found, and what you could not reach, and it
produces the certificate the householder keeps. It is a record of your visit. It
does not certify a chimney safe and it never says an appliance may be used.

The level, and the scope that comes with it
- Level I, II and III, written the way NFPA 211 writes them. The trade usually
writes 1, 2 and 3 and they mean the same thing
- The circumstances that call for each level, in the standard's own words
- Every check carries its own clause number from Table 15.2.1, so the scope on
screen is the scope in the table
- The levels are cumulative. Level II includes all of Level I, and the screen
shows the checks above your level so you can see what you are not covering

The item you could not reach
- Three outcomes on every check: examined, a defect, or not accessible
- Not accessible needs a reason. Clause 15.2.6 asks for the level completed AND
the reasons a higher level was not completed, so a blank gap is not enough
- The certificate prints the level COMPLETED, which is not always the level you
set out to perform
- Not accessible is never recorded as a pass

The certificate
- Names every item that was not examined, so nothing is certified around a gap
- Carries your own certificate reference, your credential body and number as you
entered them, the fee, your notes and the customer's signature
- Produced in English. The bundled typefaces are Latin, so a translated document
would print as empty boxes, and the app says so before it builds one
- The wording about where the record stands changes with your region, because
NFPA 211 is a United States consensus standard and there is no UK equivalent

The rest of the round
- Properties with the appliance, the flue and the access note you will want
before you get out of the van
- Defects raised against a property, with a photograph
- Recalls twelve months on, because 14.2 asks for an inspection at least once a
year. Cleaning follows what the inspection finds, so the app does not tell a
householder their chimney must be swept annually
- Sweeping is recorded separately from the inspection, since an inspection with
no sweep is an ordinary complete record
- Backup and restore in one file holding every property, inspection, check and
photograph

WHO IT IS FOR
- Self employed and small firm chimney sweeps
- Sweeps who carry out inspections at sale or transfer of a property, which
15.4.1(3) calls for
- Anyone who hands a householder a written record after the visit

WHAT IT DOES NOT DO

It does not verify any credential. CSIA runs a voluntary certification and NCSG
is a trade association, and the app prints whichever body and number you enter,
as you entered it. It says nothing about licensing anywhere, and it names no
edition year for the standard.

YOUR RECORDS STAY ON YOUR DEVICE

Properties, inspections, defects and photographs are stored on the phone. There
is no account and no sign in. The app does send crash reports and anonymous
usage statistics, and the standard tier shows ads.

SCOPE

SweepCert is a record keeping tool. It is not an inspection service, a
certification body, or legal or compliance advice. NFPA 211 is a consensus
standard and applies where a jurisdiction adopts it; the app does not guarantee
that any chimney, appliance or record meets it or any local requirement.
