Edited EDIT JAN 2017: I can't believe I now have to pay for push notifications. A paid feature should offer premium options; notifications are a necessity. 4* to 2*.|| Beautiful, simple design, but doesn't compromise on features. It's packed full of them! The developers are responsive too. I absolutely love the new email alias feature, as it means I can now send email from a shared mailbox, for which I have been patiently waiting. Please now consider being able to *access* shared mailboxes too!
Edit: Used to be the best This used to be the best email app available. Period. Still was even after the move to Newton. They kept the core functionality but added new features behind a pay wall. Fine whatever. However, removing features and putting them behind the pay wall is where I draw the line. A recent update removed push notifications so I was missing emails all day and had no idea. That's unacceptable. The pricing is not too bad but I am not an email power user and there are perfectly fine free alternative apps.
Great app!... for a price... I have been using Newton mail since before the rebranding when it was still called Cloud Magic. Newton has even more features than Cloud Magic did, but introduces the subscription. For a while I used Newton without a subscription. During that time, I could not use any of the new Newton Mail features, but it still served my purposes. Now, they disabled push notifications for people who aren't paid subscribers. I have since stopped using Newton in favor of a free email app that does push notifications.
EDIT: update to earlier review. The devs get zero stars for their handling of the transition from CloudMagic to Newton, but the app itself remains great. Stable and fast. Understanding there are many ideas on the horizon, I am hopeful for the future of Newton. I can't see myself ever paying $50/year for any email app. I'd pay $20-36 if there were more integrations (e.g.Wunderlist, Github), a Windows app, Chrome extension, and a calendar replacement worthy of Sunrise. Otherwise, there are too many free or better priced competitors offering the same functionality.
Great app, poor strategy Previously gave this 5 stars. It's still a great app - fast, fluid and the useful ability to 'mark as read' easily. But aggressive monetising strategy has ruined it recently. I can understand devs need to make a profit, but not having push notifications basically makes it unusable, for non-paying users. Great app if you pay, if you don't, avoid it.
This used to be one of my favorite apps. With the launch of Newton and paid features the UX went down a bit already but it was still pretty good. Until I found out today that I had been missing mails for multiple days in one of my less often used accounts. Apparently I need to manually fetch mails per account now? That's it for me. Uninstalling this app and finding me a replacement that actually works.
