About this app

Open lecture materials, take notes, record, and listen again—all in one notebook.

Lina Pad is a tablet note app for iPad and Android tablets that brings together PDF notes, handwritten notes, lecture recordings, and reviews in one place. You can take notes directly on PDF textbooks or lecture materials, or create blank notebooks to write freely. If you take notes while recording a class or meeting, the time each note was written is linked to the recording, allowing you to tap on the note later to instantly listen to the content from that moment.

Instead of simply storing recording files and notes separately, the focus is on quickly finding the moment you think, "What explanation did I hear when I took this note?"

**Take notes directly on PDFs**

You can import PDF files—such as class materials, papers, textbooks, and meeting notes—and take notes directly on the original pages. Flip through pages to check content, and zoom in or move around to take notes where needed. Since PDFs and notes are stored separately, the original files remain intact.

**Blank notebooks and various paper types**

You can create new notes immediately, even without a PDF. Select blank, lined, grid, or dotted paper types to use for various purposes, such as taking lecture notes, organizing ideas, solving problems, or taking meeting memos. You can add pages in the format needed for each note.

**Handwriting Tools**

You can use various writing tools, including ballpoint pens, fountain pens, brush pens, and highlighters. You can adjust color and thickness, and manage frequently used pen configurations as presets. It supports handwriting that reflects stylus pressure and translucent highlighters; using the pen-only input mode allows you to write solely with the pen while using your fingers for screen movement and zooming.

**Freely Edit and Organize Vector Handwriting**

You can use undo and redo functions, as well as full stroke and partial erasers. You can select desired handwriting with the lasso tool, then move, resize, rotate, or copy, cut, and paste it. Handwriting is managed in vector form, maintaining clarity even when zoomed in or edited.

**Handwriting and Lecture Recording Together**

You can start, pause, resume, and stop recording directly from your notes. Recording continues as the same session even if you turn pages or continue taking notes. It is designed to maintain the recording flow even when the screen is locked or the app moves to the background.

Tap a note to go to the recording at that moment

This is Lina Pad's core review feature. Notes written during a recording are saved along with the information from that specific point in time. When reviewing, selecting a note allows you to jump directly to the recording location where that note was written and play it back. You can quickly listen to the necessary explanations based on your key notes without having to search through long lectures from the beginning.

During playback, you can review by following the notes from that time, and it supports 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, and 2x playback speeds. It is useful for finding only the parts you need rather than listening to a lecture in its entirety.

Systematically manage notes and pages

Quickly find recently modified notes and search by title or sort by name or last modified. You can add frequently viewed notes to favorites and classify them into folders by subject or project. Page thumbnails allow you to quickly navigate to your desired page even in long notes.

**Freely Edit Pages**

You can add, duplicate, delete, rotate, or rearrange pages. Both PDF notes and blank notes allow you to manage multiple pages within a single notebook, making it convenient to organize class materials and additional notes together.

**Restore from Trash Even If Accidentally Deleted**

Deleted notes are not immediately permanently erased but are moved to the in-app trash. You can restore them if needed, and they are not automatically permanently deleted until the user manually empties the trash.

**Export Handwritten Results as PDF and Images**

You can create PDFs that include your handwritten notes. You can export the entire document as a PDF or select specific page ranges to save as individual page images. You can also export handwritten materials that need to be submitted or shared with others without any separate editing process.

**Export Audio Files Separately**

You can select specific sessions from recordings saved in your notes and export them as m4a files. This is useful when you need to listen to lecture recordings or meeting transcripts on other players or save them separately. Editable Lina Pad Backups

While files exported as PDFs are convenient for viewing and sharing, they are not backups intended for editing your handwriting and recordings exactly as they are on Lina Pad. Lina Pad supports .linapad backup files that store the original PDF, vector handwriting, and recording and note information together. You can export backup files and re-import them to restore your notes.

No Account, Offline

You do not need to sign up or have a separate account to use core features. Handwriting, opening PDFs, recording, reviewing, and exporting are designed to be local-centric, allowing you to use them without an internet connection. Notes are not automatically uploaded to a proprietary server, allowing users to manage their own files directly.

Review Lectures Faster

In typical recording apps, you have to manually move the playback bar of long audio clips to find important content. With Lina Pad, the notes themselves serve as the navigation reference for your recordings. You can return to the explanation at the time based on key sentences, formulas, keywords, or markings you noted down during class, reducing the time spent finding necessary sections for exam preparation or lecture review. Workspace Optimized for Tablet Screens

It utilizes a tablet-centric screen layout to ensure easy access to notes, pages, and writing tools in both landscape and portrait modes. You can fold the tool area to focus on your notes when you want a wider view of the writing area, and zoom in and out or move with two fingers to view details. In environments that support physical stylus buttons, you can also switch to a temporary eraser while writing.

Manage Recordings by Note

If you have recorded multiple times in a single note, you can view the sessions in the recording list to play or delete the recordings you need. You can also export specific sections or recording files for storage, allowing you to maintain the flow within a single note even when taking a course multiple times or continuously recording meetings for the same project.

Data at Your Fingertips

Notes are saved using a local-first approach and do not require a separate Lina Pad account or a dedicated cloud server. You can export directly as PDFs, images, recordings, or .linapad backup files when needed. Users can select their desired save location via the operating system's file picker, making it ideal for use alongside existing file management methods. One-time Purchase, Focus on Core Features

Lina Pad aims to be a one-time paid app that is used without separate subscriptions, ads, or in-app purchases. Rather than relying on generative AI or automatic summarization, it focuses on the fundamental experience of reliably saving and retrieving your handwritten notes and recordings.
