About this app

Tangoo is the all-in-one app to learn Japanese — a powerful dictionary, spaced-repetition flashcards, JLPT grammar, graded reading and 6,700 kanji, all in one place. It's built around a Japanese dictionary that actually teaches: look up any word, then remember it for good. Most of Tangoo works completely offline, with no ads, ever.

Whether you're learning your first hiragana or grinding toward N1, Tangoo replaces the five different apps you've been juggling.

A DICTIONARY THAT TEACHES
• 169,000+ entries from the open JMdict project — words, readings, and meanings
• Search by kanji, kana, romaji, English, your voice, or by drawing the character by hand
• Every entry shows JLPT level, how common the word is, native audio, and real example sentences
• Tap any word, anywhere in the app, for an instant pop-up definition

FLASHCARDS THAT READ YOUR MEMORY
• Spaced-repetition review (SM-2) resurfaces each word the moment you're about to forget it
• Auto-built "Recent Mistakes" and "Critical Condition" decks drill exactly what you keep getting wrong
• Build custom decks for any JLPT level, topic, or your own favorites
• Quick Quiz for a fast five-minute session

GRAMMAR, FINALLY EXPLAINED
• 1,000+ grammar points from JLPT N5 to N1, in plain English
• Every point has a clear explanation, example sentences, and audio
• Special tracks for anime & manga, business Japanese & keigo, Kansai dialect, casual speech, and internet slang

READ AND LISTEN TO REAL JAPANESE
• 100+ graded reading stories from beginner to advanced, with furigana on tap
• 100+ listening conversations with native-speaker audio and transcripts
• An instant dictionary lives on every word you read

MASTER KANJI AND KANA
• 6,700+ kanji with animated stroke order, meanings, and readings
• Learn hiragana and katakana from scratch with the built-in Kana trainer

PHRASES FOR REAL LIFE
• 1,200+ ready-to-use phrases across 31 categories
• Work & business, job interviews, travel, greetings, polite keigo, and 80+ phrases straight from popular anime

well i enjoy it pretty much, the dictionary part is very effective and thankfully it'd free to use. other parts are fun and usefull too i like the way you can practice the words you save into your lists. but for the premium parts, i wish more of the premuims were free, i mean it's already giod that there are some free stories and listenings and grammer courses, but anyway. great app and thank you!

It's easier to find out that I have learned the Japanese hiragana characters and katakana characters and easier to understand kanji. I would recommend this to people who want to know how much Japanese you have learned.

Best Japanese learning app I've seen, so far. User friendly, especially for beginners.
