About this app

Pencil In is an appointment book for people who work alone: barbers, hairdressers, nail and lash technicians, tutors, personal trainers, dog groomers. It works fully offline, with no account and no subscription, and your client list never leaves your phone.

It is not an online booking system. Your clients never see it and never book themselves - it is your own book, on your own phone, the way a paper one on the counter is.

★ YOUR DAY, WITH THE FREE TIME SHOWN
Open it and you see today: the appointment in progress or the next one at the top, then the day in order, with the free time between appointments drawn as gaps with their length. Tap a gap and the new appointment starts there. Swipe or tap to another day, and there is a week view for the phone call that starts with any time next week.

★ CLIENTS AND WHAT YOU CHARGE
Keep a name, a phone number and notes for each client - allergies, preferences, what you did last time - with every appointment they have had and how many times they did not come. Copy a client from your contacts: Android's own picker hands over the one contact you choose, and nothing else. Keep a price list of your services with their usual length and price. Booking copies them into the appointment, so raising a price next month never changes what you charged last month.

★ TWO CLIENTS AT ONCE? IT ASKS
If a new appointment overlaps another, Pencil In names the other one and asks before saving. Some people book two clients at once on purpose, so you can always book it anyway, and the day view marks the overlap in words.

★ CONFIRM BY MESSAGE FROM YOUR OWN PHONE
One tap opens your messaging app with the confirmation already written, in your phone's own time format: Hi Ana, confirming your Haircut on Wed 14 Oct at 3:00 PM. You press send. Pencil In never sends a message itself and never contacts your clients.

★ WHAT YOU EARNED
Mark each appointment done, no-show or cancelled. Earnings for the day, the week or the month count only what you marked done; no-shows and cancellations are shown beside the total and never added to it. A past appointment nobody marked stays not marked until you say what happened. Save the appointments as a CSV for your accountant.

★ REMINDERS FOR YOU, IF YOU WANT THEM
Turn on a notification a set number of minutes before each appointment. It is for you, on this phone - nothing is sent to your clients. Android decides the exact moment, so a reminder can come up to 10 minutes early, and later if the phone has been lying still with its screen off.

★ YOUR DATA STAYS ON YOUR PHONE
Everything is kept on this phone and nothing is uploaded; there is nothing to sign in to, and the app needs the internet only for ads. Android's cloud backup is switched off for it, so a new phone starts with an empty book unless you restore a backup. Save a backup file wherever you like and restore it on your next phone.

★ AND THE REST
- Opening hours, so the free time starts and ends where your day does.
- Correct on the two nights a year the clocks change: 9:00 stays 9:00.
- Every row is read as one sentence by a screen reader, and every control has a name.
- Light and dark, and your wallpaper colours if you want them.

Ads: one full-screen ad now and then as you leave the earnings screen - never while you book, confirm or mark an appointment. Watch a short video in Settings to turn ads off for a day.

What’s new

Tapping a reminder now opens that appointment. It used to open whatever
screen you had left the app on.

If you say no to notifications when turning reminders on, Settings now
keeps a Notification settings link on screen, so you can allow them
later. Before, only a short message said where to change it.
