Fairgrid is classic sudoku that works offline. Every puzzle has exactly one solution, every one can be finished by reasoning alone with no guessing, and its difficulty is the hardest step it asks of you - not the number of clues printed in the grid.

★ PUZZLES YOU CAN TRUST
Each of the 8,000 puzzles was checked by a solver that counts solutions, and is checked again the moment it is dealt. You will never fill in a grid that follows every rule and be told it is wrong because the app had a different answer in mind.

★ FOUR DIFFICULTIES, DEFINED BY THE REASONING
Easy needs singles only. Medium needs pointing pairs and box-line reduction. Hard needs pairs and triples. Expert needs an X-Wing, a Swordfish or an XY-Wing. Every puzzle needs its own level: an Expert here never falls to singles.

★ HINTS THAT EXPLAIN
A hint shows the next number that can actually be worked out from where you are, and says how - the only place left for a 7 in its box, or the technique that has to come first. Three free hints come back every day, with no connection needed. If you run out, a short video adds three more, only if you choose to watch it. Every puzzle can be finished without a hint.

★ EVERYTHING A PENCIL CAN DO
Notes, with the notes around a number tidied away when you place it. Undo and Redo through the whole game. Mistakes marked as you go, free and unlimited, with no mistake limit and no game over. A number that clashes with another is marked with a bar as well as a colour.

★ A DAILY PUZZLE
One puzzle a day, the same for everyone on the same date, chosen on your phone with no server. It is Easy on Monday and gets harder towards Saturday. Solve it on the day to keep your streak.

★ YOUR GAME WAITS FOR YOU
Leave in the middle of a puzzle and it is exactly where you left it: every number, every note, your undo history and your time. The timer stops whenever the game is not in front of you. One game in progress per difficulty, plus the daily.

★ STATISTICS
Puzzles solved, best time and average time for each difficulty, and your daily streak. A best time counts only a puzzle finished without a hint.

★ OFFLINE, AND NOTHING TO SIGN IN TO
Every puzzle is inside the app. There is no account, and your games and statistics stay on this phone; the app needs the internet only for ads. Android's cloud backup is switched off here, so a new phone starts with Fairgrid at its defaults.

★ MADE TO BE READ
TalkBack reads every cell by its row and column, says what each tap did, and speaks every hint. Light and dark themes, and your wallpaper colours if you want them.

Ads: one full-screen ad now and then, after you finish a puzzle and leave it - never while you are playing, never when you leave a puzzle unfinished, and never over the grid. No banners.

What’s new

• FIXED: on Android 7.0 and 7.1 the game could close as soon as it opened, because those versions of Android do not have the date library it uses to pick the daily puzzle. Fairgrid now carries its own copy, so it works on every phone it installs on.
