About this app

Every birthday you keep forgetting, in one list that reminds you.

Birthdays keeps the day, the month and — if you know it — the year, works out
how old everyone is turning, and tells you before the day arrives. No account,
no cloud, no sign-up, and it all works with the phone in airplane mode.

★ IT NEVER ASKS FOR YOUR CONTACTS
Every other birthday app wants your address book. This one does not ask, and
cannot read it — there is no contacts permission in the app at all. You type
people in, or import a file you chose yourself. Nothing about the people you
care about is uploaded anywhere.

★ THE YEAR IS OPTIONAL, AND THAT IS THE POINT
You know your neighbour's birthday is 3 June and you have no idea how old she
is. Most apps make you invent a year. This one does not:
• Add a day and a month and nothing else
• No age is shown, and no wrong age is invented
• The reminder, the countdown and the month view all still work
• Add the year later and the age appears

★ 29 FEBRUARY, DONE PROPERLY
A 29 February birthday has no date in three years out of four, and most apps
either pick one silently or get it wrong.
• You choose: 28 February, or 1 March. It is a setting, with a stated default
• The date you typed is kept exactly as you typed it — nothing is rewritten
• Ages, reminders and the calendar all agree with the setting you chose
• Your leap-day friends appear on a real square of a real month, every year

★ AGES THAT AGREE WITH EACH OTHER
• How old they are now, and what they are turning
• "Turns 30 in 12 days" — one sentence, no arithmetic
• Babies say "under 1" instead of "0 years old"

★ REMINDERS THAT ARRIVE ONCE
• On the day, and 1, 3, 7, 14 or 30 days before — whichever you pick
• Set them for everyone, or per person
• Once per birthday, never twice, and never for one that has passed
• Battery-friendly: one daily check, no exact alarms, no background service

★ A WIDGET FOR THE HOME SCREEN
• Today's birthdays and the next few, without opening anything
• Tap a name to open it
• Never carries an ad. Not one, not ever
• Redraws when your list or the date changes — not on a timer that wakes your
phone all day

★ A MONTH AT A TIME
See who is in March before you plan anything else, with the days that have
birthdays marked.

★ YOUR DATA STAYS YOURS
• Works 100% offline — internet is used only to show ads
• No account, no cloud, no tracking
• Android cloud backup is switched off on purpose: data never leaves the device
• Export a readable JSON file of everybody and import it back any time. Never
behind a paywall and never behind an ad

★ MADE TO FEEL GOOD
• No banner ads. Ever. Nothing sits on top of your list
• Material You design that follows your wallpaper, light and dark themes
• Prefer no ads at all? Watch one short video and go ad-free for 24 hours

Birthdays needs an internet connection only to show ads. Adding people, the
reminders, the ages, the widget, the month view, export and import all work in
airplane mode.

What’s new

Every settings row is now tappable across its whole width.

Choosing a theme, picking what happens to a 29 February birthday, or
turning reminders on used to work only if you hit the small circle or
the switch itself - tapping the label, or anywhere else in the row,
did nothing at all.

Screen readers now read each row as one labelled choice instead of a
bare control next to some loose text.
