YellowTag is a map of the yellow-tag markdowns people are finding in Australian
stores right now.
Someone spots a clearance sticker at Bunnings, Coles, Kmart or Chemist Warehouse,
photographs it at the shelf, and it appears on the map for everyone nearby. No
typing in prices, no links, no affiliate feeds — just the tag itself, where it
was found.
HOW POSTING WORKS
Posts are made with the camera, at the shelf. There is no way to upload an older
picture from your gallery: the photo has to be taken in the app, and the app asks
you to post it from where you took it (within 500 m) while it is still fresh
(within 10 minutes). The idea is that a tag on the map is one somebody was
standing in front of, not something forwarded from a group chat.
The photo carries the price. You add the product, the chain, and where in the
store it is — an aisle number, the clearance shelf, the markdown fridge, the
service desk.
FINDING THINGS
- A map and a list of what is nearby, sorted by how far away it is
- Filter to the chains you actually shop at, and to the categories you care about
- Search by product, brand or store
- Every deal shows how long ago it was spotted and how far away it is
STAYING UP TO DATE
- Set an alert area — a circle around where you are — and get a heads-up when
deals turn up inside it
- Add keywords to your wishlist and hear about matches anywhere in town
- Follow the people whose finds are useful to you
- A daily digest, if you want one
Alerts are deliberately restrained: a couple an hour at most, and none at all
during the quiet hours you set. The window can cross midnight.
KEEPING IT CURRENT
Markdowns do not last, so neither do posts. Groceries expire in a couple of days,
hardware and department-store finds last about a week.
What is gone gets cleared out. Anyone can vote "in stock" or "gone", and three
"gone" votes in a row take a deal off the map automatically — no report, no
moderator, no waiting. Comments let you say what you found when you got there.
ABOUT LOCATION
The pin on a post is the spot it was posted from, and it is public — everyone who
opens the app can see it. Pin the store, not your home. Your alert area, your
wishlist and your saved list are yours alone and are never shown to anyone else.
Photos are uploaded without location data attached; the pin is a separate thing
you post deliberately.
Product recognition runs on your phone. Nothing about the photo is sent anywhere
for it.
YellowTag is built for Australian shoppers, and Sydney is where most of the posts
are right now. Bunnings, Mitre 10, Coles, Woolworths, ALDI, IGA, Costco, Harris Farm, Kmart,
Big W, Target, Myer, JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, The Good Guys, Harvey Norman, Chemist
Warehouse, Priceline, Spotlight, IKEA, Dan Murphy's and more.
YellowTag is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any retailer.
