My favourite app! I cannot believe how much my French has improved since using Duolingo. I can now hold a sensible conversation in French, online. This time last year I couldn't have dreamt of this being possible. If like me you hadn't heard of Duolingo and have only installed the app, though, please be aware that you can use it on your PC too; the website version has even more features.
Five stars Tried many times in school and with various programs to learn a language. I have an excellent visual memory; learned to read and write French pretty well at one time but never could I understand, interpret the audio..conversational ability was non existant. For 30 yrs I was that person, "I can't learn new languages, not for me." This program is perfect and I look forward to opening it everyday! I spent 20min/day the last few weeks and I'm beginning to 'think' in the language! Thank you so much Duolingo!
A very good program but stops short of being excellent I speak several languages and need to upgrade a few. Duolingo is far superior to Mango, offering as much Freedom or hand-holding as you need. It lets you back if you are weak in an area. But I would like to see two changes before giving it 5 stars. First a simple vocabulary list, growing as you learn, containing both singular and plurals, and using masculine, feminine, and neutral forms. My spelling needs work. Secondly, a series of conjugation drills would be priceless. Otherwise an excellent app.
Great, very useful Very good for trying to learn a new language. I love using it, why then 4 stars and not five? Lack of explanation for the cases. I'm using ot for German and it doesn't stop to explain why the cases on words change, but corrects it when you use the wrong one. I know from previous language classes why but for those who have never taken a case language it can cause a lot of confusion.
Amazingly simple, simply amazing The only thing I could complain about is that the sentences sometimes make no sense at all. However, the app is so well made that you actually remember what you've been learning from the start because they are smart enough to regularly make you re-use the vocabulary and stuff... I would give the app 8 out of 5 :-)
Easy, Effective, and Fun! This app is great! The layout is and easy to understand, and it really does teach you a language (or two or three if you like). To give a comparison, I did Rosetta Stone a while back (which was, like, $300 at a discount) and Duolingo is basically the same thing and free! EDIT: If there was one thing I'd add, it would be a latin course.
