About this app

EMDR TriSense™ is an app providing bilateral desensitization stimulus using three modalities. It assists an EMDR therapy session performed by a professional psychotherapist. It can also be used for general relaxation or anxiety reduction.

Use any combination for stimuli:

● Audio (configurable stereo sound)
● Vibration (haptic stimulus)
● Visuals tracking (eye movement)

For best effects, use two smartphones (may be different type). Two handsets are required to use visual and haptic stimulus. Audio stimulus is available in both single and dual handset modes.

Other salient features:

● Adjustable cycle speed, from 1 second (0.5 s per side) to 8 seconds
● Support for Bluetooth headphones – finally no more wires!
● Sounds with brainwave entrainment frequencies (optional)

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a safe psychotherapeutic technique that can help overcome anxiety, stress, and traumas. By applying the EMDR psychotherapy, a person can:

● Decrease effect of disturbing memories
● Decrease post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms
● Decrease phobia and panic disorder symptoms

The EMDR protocol includes desensitization of negative emotions associated with painful memories, and consequently reprocessing those memories from a current, healthier perspective. The desensitization effect is achieved by appropriate dual attention stimulation of the left and right brain hemispheres. Under proper conditions, reprocessing happens naturally, using innate healing capacities of the brain. Eye movement is one of the ways to trigger desensitization and reprocessing, not unlike the process happening during a dreamful sleep, in the Rapid Eye Movement (REM) phase.

it's a great idea and app. thank you. Only unfortunately it seems to work audio and vibration only with certain phones. maybe it would help to access some fallback API if audio and vibration can't be found ... anyway thank you for development!

Thanks for the feedback. Indeed, the app requires a device that supports audio. The audio can be muted by setting the volume (in the app settings) to zero, but the audio still have to be supported by the device: besides generating sound it is also used for timing and synchronization. A device need not support vibration for the app to work.

I've been trying to find a way to do breathing with bilateral haptic feedback to enhance and support the emdr work I do each week, without spending a fortune on a kit. I don't know why your app didn't show up until today, but I'm beyond thrilled that it did. I plan on bringing it with me to my next session, to see if I can get any insights on what speed/duration has been most relaxing for me. You truly made my day.

Connecting over WiFi is contingent on numerous factors outside of the app control, like network filtering of broadcast messages. I'd recommend using Bluetooth to connect; it is slightly more difficult to set up, but it works more reliably. More info on app's website. The time picker crash on some phones will be fixed in the next major release.

What’s new

This release greatly improves compatibility with newer Android versions and devices, especially around bluetooth connectivity, visualization, vibration, and UI experience.
There are also numerous bug fixes and provisions to work well with the upcoming iOS version.
Android versions before 5.0 (Lollipop) are no longer supported by this release, however previous releases still work down to Android 2.2 (Froyo).
