About this app

The Japanese Walking method is a way to get the most benefit from your daily walk. Studies have shown that people who Japanese Walk have greater health outcomes compared to people who simply walk. A 30 minute Japanese Interval Walk has been shown to be more beneficial than getting your 10,000 steps per day.

To Japanese Walk you need to walk as fast as possible for 3 minutes and then walk slowly for 3 minutes. Repeat this 10 times.

How does this app help? It's a timer. It gives you a notification when you need to speed up or slow down. No need to keep looking at the phone, press the button and get walking.

This app can also give you a reminder of a time to walk. You set this, we will never send you a notification you didn’t ask for.

Japanese Walking has an achievement system to help keep you motivated on your health journey.

Modern app design. Choose from light mode or dark mode. You can even change the app colour (if red isn’t your favourite).

This app takes your privacy very seriously. All the data entered into the app is stored on your device. We couldn’t sell your information even if we wanted to. The app does track app usage data, this is limited to what City you are in and what pages you have looked at. This is optional and can be turned off at any time.

Or a quick summary

Basically it's just an interval timer. The 3 minute interval doesn't make any sound. The only cue you finished the 3 minute interval is just a phone vibration. It's not useful because nobody wants to be holding their phone while exercising just to feel it's vibration. Could improve by providing audio alert when fast walking or slow walking is to begin and when the timer is over. I will now uninstall it.

The app gives notifications when to change speed that do have a noise. It sounds like your phone might be muted

The app is absolutely amazing! I haven’t faced any issues so far, and the founder is also very responsive and directly responds to feedback, which is really appreciated. I just have one small suggestion: it would be great if the app could announce ā€œSlow Walkā€ when the slow-walking interval starts and ā€œFast Walkā€ when the fast-walking interval starts. Other than that, the app is really great! Highly recommended.

Just trying this for first time today. Seems still bugs to iron out. It gave a notification to change speed with screen off, but after doing second fast period it seemed to be going on longer than expected. When I unlocked the screen, that is when the alarm sounded, yet was already half way through slow section. Also, with screen locked, notification was wrong one, so it notified to go slow when I should be going fast. I had to keep screen open and watch it as I walked. Achievement not recorded.

Hi Garry. The app needs permission to schedule exact alarms, otherwise they can appear at the wrong time
