Freelance tax, without the spreadsheet.
For 1099 contractors and gig workers paid without tax taken out.
NOT A GOVERNMENT APP — 1099 Quarterly Tax Estimator is an independent app
from Firefly Software. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or authorized
by the IRS, the U.S. government or any state tax agency, and it does not
represent them or file anything with them.
Log income. Know what to set aside. Never miss a deadline. Built on the
safe harbor rule: pay 100% of last year's tax across 4 payments (110% over
$150K AGI) and the IRS won't penalize you — we calculate that number in 60
seconds of setup.
FREE FOREVER — no trial, no card:
• Your quarterly set-aside number (safe harbor or projection)
• Every federal deadline with a countdown
• Three reminders per quarter: 2 weeks, 3 days, due day
• Your state's own deadlines when they differ from the federal ones
• A set-aside tracker against what the quarter needs
• A one-tap link to pay on IRS.gov
• Income log with CSV import from your invoicing app
• We tell you if you are under the $1,000 federal threshold
• Year overview with paid/upcoming status
PREMIUM — pay the least you legally can, and know what April holds:
• What to set aside from each payment — the real tax it causes, not a
flat rule. Past the Social Security cap the rate drops sharply
• What April looks like: safe harbor stops the penalty, not the bill. We
show it building on income you have already been paid
• Your household: a spouse's salary, withholding and a retirement
contribution each move what you owe by thousands
• Your state's tax folded into every quarterly figure
• The state rules that change what you owe: some split the year unevenly,
and the income at which they start asking varies
• Income by client — the fastest way to check that every 1099-NEC you
expected has arrived
• Retirement room: your SEP-IRA and solo 401(k) limits from your own
profit, and what each contribution takes off the bill. A solo 401(k)
usually allows far more than a SEP
• A year-end PDF for your accountant: income by client, every payment
with its confirmation number, estimated vs actual
• CSV export as a real file you can share
• A home screen widget with your number and the countdown
We add a state only after checking its rules against that state's own tax
agency. Every income-tax state except Connecticut is covered — 40 states plus
DC. If yours is not, the app says so and does not charge you for it. Some states do not ask
individuals for quarterly payments at all, and we say that instead of
showing you deadlines that do not exist.
WHERE THE NUMBERS COME FROM — OFFICIAL SOURCES
Every federal figure and date comes from these public IRS pages and is
rechecked every December. Deadlines follow the IRS rule for weekends and
holidays and are checked against every date the IRS has published since 2016.

DISCLAIMER
This app does not represent the IRS, the U.S. Department of the Treasury or
any state tax authority, and it is not authorized to provide or facilitate
government services. It is not a filing tool: it estimates what to set aside
and reminds you when payment is due, while your accountant or filing
software handles the return. All figures are estimates for planning only and
are not tax advice.
