Very effective app. Memory aids are good and stroke practice tool is clear. Only annoying thing is that the app randomly reset and I had to start all over again to get to the Katakana practice. Would be good if they could separate the Hiragana and Katakana from the outset. The only overlapping info is the 'criminal' for the katakana for 'ru'.

-The input is very finicky and will reject strokes that are OK if it decides it doesn't like them for whatever reason -The model letters are a little off compared with normal Japanese. They look like a Japanese learner drew the model rather than a native speaker, and then want you to learn that slightly off version -The little elements that it teaches you to try to remember the letters are confusing because some of the elements don't actually look that similar if you draw the letters properly

Helped me learn hiragana and katakana along with Duolingo - but this taught me to write much better than Duo did. I wish there were practice options in between "learn" and "test", though. People tend to learn best through spaced repetition, and in order to do that, I had to manually repeat lessons. Even just an option to repeat each unit as a full chunk instead of selecting each individual letter would make a big difference.
