"SMS Backup & Restore", even though it performs a simple task, is a major project to develop and maintain. Because there are so many devices and so many different apps for texting, it requires constant attention, development, and improvements. in order to keep it moving, there is a symbolic fee for unlocking all the features.
The free version allows you to share 6 messages each time and includes ads. It is a bit more complex but it actually allows the full functionality, especially for shorter conversions. If you upgrade to pro, you can send all the messages in one go.

Converting And Exporting SMS - Formats:
"SMS Backup, Print & Restore" will convert your SMS text messages to PDF, CSV, HTML, or JPG formats, export the conversations to files, and save them to your device storage.
It will use these files as attachments and share them via different sharing apps. the files are all restorable, meaning you can retrieve your texting data back to the device.

PDF File:
The best option for printing SMS text messages and media (MMS/RCS messages).
Can be opened by Adobe Reader.
"SMS Backup, Restore & Print" will create beautifully designed PDF files with graphics and text.
It supports SMS text messages, as well as MMS multimedia messages (photos and links)

HTML File:
A compact file - can be open via the web browser. Good for backup or for printing long conversations or in case the PDF option does not work properly.

I just started using it, but so far I love it. I can save my text messages as a pdf or a variety of other formats, I can send share it to my email or various other locations/platforms, and I can print them. The apps design/layout of my text messages is beautiful. I love it. So much better than any other method I have tried so far.

Frustrating app... this is like the 5th app I've paid for that doesn't do what it says it will do. I did automatic backup and it doesn't seem to backup everything. The things it does backup will not transfer to new phone. Tried to message support through chat but it says it will take a couple hours for a response but the widow refreshes and conversation is gone. Would give a 0 if I could.

I use Google msgs. under advanced settings of this app, I chose file type "text," yet my export is still in Excel format. If I wanted Excel format, I would have chosen Excel. Trial is a JOKE!! Fortunately I had a convo that had < 6 msgs to be able to try out this app. Otherwise I wouldn't even know. And I still get errors telling me media is not included yet I'm not taken anywhere when I click on options to fix those errors. very disappointed bc I wanted this to work. Happy to pay IF it works!
