"SMS Backup & Restore", even though it performs a simple task, is a major project to develop and maintain. Because there are so many devices and so many different apps for texting, it requires constant attention, development, and improvements. in order to keep it moving, there is a symbolic fee for unlocking all the features.
The free version allows you to share 6 messages each time and includes ads. It is a bit more complex but it actually allows the full functionality, especially for shorter conversions. If you upgrade to pro, you can send all the messages in one go.

Converting And Exporting SMS - Formats:
"SMS Backup, Print & Restore" will convert your SMS text messages to PDF, CSV, HTML, or JPG formats, export the conversations to files, and save them to your device storage.
It will use these files as attachments and share them via different sharing apps. the files are all restorable, meaning you can retrieve your texting data back to the device.

PDF File:
The best option for printing SMS text messages and media (MMS/RCS messages).
Can be opened by Adobe Reader.

I downloaded this to record one text message thread to create an accounting for an insurance claim. Because there are more than 6 messages in the thread, I was prompted to upgrade to premium. also, the action buttons inside the app were actually 3rd party upsell to much more expensive upgrades. deceiving. I don't mind 3rd party adds, it's one of the understood conditions for using a free download software. However, these ads shouldn't look like the call to action buttons inside the app itself.

It's a solid program for exporting SMS streams to a variety of formats, and so far it has been stable and works well. There are a couple of minor things the developer could improve (the font used for HTML exports is not the same as the font I selected...which is actually more annoying than I expected it would be) or add (such as enabling automatic backups at scheduled intervals), but overall I'm happy with the app.

yet handles group conversations, which most SMS backup programs do not. also it backs up embedded media. I would give it five stars, except for the difficulty of transferring a backup to my PC. it only puts the back up on the phone. meaning if there's a problem with the phone, the backup is lost. transfer over USB cable of trips up on file and location name too long. there is no clear description of the error, but I have discovered that long name is the problem.
