About this game

Aëd is a pedlar. She does not read what she carries: she delivers it. This time it is a sealed letter from King Edric to the lord of Morvaine. And the lord only receives at the full moon.

She has seven days to understand why the old mark on her shoulder burns when the moon rises. And seven nights to survive what prowls in Tirnaog.

Ecstaquest is an old-school horror adventure where every picture is an oil painting: scenery laid down stroke by stroke, characters made of soft round shapes, and fixed cameras that frame every place like a canvas in a museum.

BY DAY, A FAIRY TALE

Valombre, the royal town, where the sun always shines. You talk, you trade, you solve puzzles, you sometimes die in silly ways, and the narrator never fails to point it out. A wishing well that grants wishes (crookedly), a king as round as a pie, a festival for the knight Sire Blaise, and a witch who lives in a hut on the back of a giant toad.

BY NIGHT, SURVIVAL

Across the river lies Tirnaog, where the children have wrinkles. For seven nights, an eight-foot beast has prowled the square when the moon rises. It hears your steps, it sees your lantern: veil the flame, walk softly, run. In the manor of Morvaine the dead do the housework, doors open with crested keys, and every page written in the Scribe’s book costs a flask of ink.

A MYSTERY IN FIVE QUESTIONS

Who is the Beast? Why is Tirnaog growing old? What is the lord of Morvaine hiding? What does the letter say? And who is Aëd? Eight chapters, seven nights, and answers you have to earn.

WHAT AWAITS YOU

• 8 chapters, from the first turn of the well’s winch to the last dawn
• item puzzles: use, examine, combine, and even sing
• an 8-slot bag: what you leave in the chest is a real decision
• ink to save your game: three pages in the Scribe’s book, one free page every dawn, nights must be paid for
• nearly sixty deaths, every one of them told (dying teaches you too)
• a score out of 777
• 6 endings, one of which you have to deserve
• villagers to protect, hourglasses to return, the verses of a ballad to find
• a new game, “The book remembers”: a playable prologue, a narrator who remembers your deaths, a “Black moon” difficulty and one more ending

A LIVING PAINTING

Clouds drift, flames flicker, leaves and water shiver in the wind, rain falls into the paint. You travel from one place to the next with a stroke of the brush.

HOW TO PLAY

With your thumb: a stick to walk, an Act button, a Bag button. Landscape, full screen. English and French, switchable in the settings.
