The galaxy is crowded. City-planets of forty billion people, flickering neon, flying cars that never stop, and on every screen the same smile: Lola Quasar, the biggest pop star in the universe, offering a billion credits to whoever finds the Black Donut, stolen three years ago to the day.
Kenny is a bounty hunter. He has a trench coat, a fedora, a cigarette he isn’t allowed to light and a robot arm that does everything except the dishes. Tonight, LyLy blew a hole in the ship. Tomorrow, Kenny will have the biggest bounty in history at his fingertips. In between, he put on a pair of VR goggles to unwind, and without knowing it, he logged into the secret channel of the gang behind the heist of the century.
Outrunner is a space-noir adventure, recorded on a 1989 VHS tape: fixed cameras framing every place, polygon characters, neon everywhere, and the grain of the tape rolling.
THE CREW OF THE POMPOM
The Pompom is an old taxi. Danny, seven feet tall, makes galactic donuts. Stephy, the mechanic, talks to her bolts. LyLy, a ten-inch Pomeranian, swears like a pirate and drags around guns bigger than he is. And Fyfy, his big sister, a Pomeranian too, is the pilot: she will remind you very quickly that it’s HER ship.
PLANETS TO AVOID
Kessra, where it always rains and the red lights are just decoration. Pantoufle, the retirement planet, where even the flies are retired. Gargantua, the buffet planet, and its three-hour line. Le Trou Noir, the casino where everyone cheats, especially the croupier: he has eight arms. Casse-Pipe, the galactic impound, where everything that flies ends up one day. And Quasar Tower, on a concert night.
AN ARM THAT DOES EVERYTHING
Kenny’s Arm scans, calls the crew, projects wanted posters and holds your things. Bring your bounties back alive: in the Kennel, the ship’s prison, twelve cages are waiting for their guests. And every one of them will remember how you treated them.
