Watching a parent or grandparent struggle with small buttons, confusing menus and accidental taps on a smartphone? Senior Helper solves that.
Senior Helper is a phone app for older adults and the visually impaired. The home screen shows just four large buttons. Each fills a quarter of the screen. Big icons, big text, nothing else. No ads, no popups, no clutter.
📞 PHONE
A dialler where every digit fills a third of the screen width. Plus key for international numbers. The call button is full-width and green. The contacts list shows names large and phone numbers below. Contacts can be added manually or imported from the phone's address book one at a time or all at once. The delete button is small to avoid accidental taps. When more than five contacts are saved, a separate selection mode appears for deleting many contacts at once.
🔦 FLASHLIGHT
One tap from the home screen turns the flashlight on. The icon changes immediately, the off-state bulb becomes a bulb with rays so you can see at a glance that the light is on. Five minutes later it turns off automatically, so the battery won't drain if it was left on by accident.
🚨 SOS EMERGENCY
In a moment of panic or sudden illness, an older person may struggle to remember a phone number or even who to call. Senior Helper takes that pressure away. The large red SOS button is right there on the home screen. One tap, and they know the right person will be reached - no numbers to recall, no menus to navigate, no decisions to make under stress.
A thirty second countdown starts on tap. The cancel button is full-width and taller than any other button. During the last fifteen seconds it flashes white and red to make accidental taps impossible to miss. When the countdown ends, the app calls a previously chosen contact. The SOS contact can be entered manually or picked from the phone's contacts list. One number, one action, no confusion.
🔍 MAGNIFIER
The phone's camera becomes a digital magnifying glass. The zoom-in and zoom-out buttons are large. A built-in light helps in low-light conditions, the rear flash turns on and the camera view brightens. Useful for reading medication labels, price tags or newspapers.
🔐 PRIVACY
Senior Helper does not collect, transmit or share your data. Contacts stay on your phone. The camera is used only for the flashlight and magnifier, never for taking pictures or video. No internet required. No ads.
👨👩👧 GREAT FOR FAMILY HELPERS
A family member can install the app on grandma's or grandpa's phone, set the SOS contact to their own number, and add a few contacts up front. After that, the senior uses the app independently with no guidance.
Simple, big, in plain English. The way a phone for an older adult should be.
