Harpocrates is a notched sound therapy tool designed for people with tonal tinnitus.
The idea is simple: it plays noise (pink or white) with a band of frequencies centered on your tinnitus frequency cut out. By removing the energy precisely in that band, the neurons tuned to the edges of the gap are stimulated and, through a lateral inhibition mechanism, can attenuate the activity associated with tinnitus. This approach has been studied in the scientific literature; the response varies greatly from person to person.
What the app does:
• Find your frequency. An adjustable tone helps you match the sound of your tinnitus to use as the center of the cutout.
• Real-time notched noise. Listen to the noise with the cutout band and adjust the center, width (in octaves), depth, and volume. You'll see the exact band being cut out.
• Listening session. Let it play on a loop with the app running in the background, using a configurable timer.
• Export the file. Generate a WAV or FLAC file with your exact parameters.
• Notch verified. Unlike a simple "eyeball" filter, the app uses spectrum analysis to verify that the notch is actually present and at the specified depth. If the file doesn't have the notch, it will tell you.
Privacy: Works 100% offline. It doesn't create accounts, collect data, or have ads or analytics. It's free and open-source software (MIT license).
