About this app

The basics of professional medical English language — for future healthcare students (CNA, HCA, LPN, etc.) and everyone!

HCL A&P is a unique medical vocabulary trainer designed as a learning, evaluation (and/or self-evaluation), and review tool, presenting 945+ essential Anatomy & Physiology terms – the foundational section of medical vocabulary – strategically selected for healthcare students and professionals.

This comprehensive vocabulary set covers:
- Complete foundational A&P terminology for Nursing and Medical Assistant (CNA/HCA/PSW/MA) students
- Approximately 60% of A&P vocabulary taught in LPN programs*, providing a strong foundation before formal studies begin
- Essential terms for ESL healthcare professionals and medical interpreters
*Based on analysis of key terms from standard A&P textbooks used in accredited LPN colleges.

The English level required for using this application is not very high – about 4-5 according to the IELTS leveling (grading) system, and maybe even less; so, you can use it at the same time as you learn general ("everyday") English.

The conventional approach to structuring A&P vocabulary — presenting all terms in the form of anatomical systems of organs — is uniquely combined with a pedagogical method that organizes these terms into a semantic, or logical, chain: the definition of each word cannot include any of the subsequent terms, but is based solely on the terms introduced earlier. This methodology maintains 95% semantic chain integrity across all 945+ terms.

This unique approach offers three key benefits for the user:
- It aligns with how A&P vocabulary is most commonly taught in medical colleges or universities, guiding learners along the expected path
- It ensures consistent, consecutive, and focused progress in learning the vocabulary, allowing the user to concentrate fully on each step
- It enables the material to be structured into blocks, introducing a game element where each new topic is unlocked only after successful completion of the previous one, making the learning process more engaging and motivating

Key Features:
- 945+ essential anatomy & physiology terms organized into 9 topics with 3 subtopics each
- Two exercises per subtopic (54 exercises total) based on definitions and examples
- Topic tests with multiple question types to assess mastery
- Visual progress tracking with completion checkmarks on completed topics
- Advanced search functionality - find any term with partial matching
- Pronunciation guides with audio for every term
- Customizable translations for personalized learning
- Sound effects and haptic feedback options

This app is not meant to completely teach the A&P vocabulary, as this will happen, we believe, during your A&P study at the educational institution, but this app outlines the basic vocabulary and helps you get acquainted with it or review it very well – to make your future learning effort much less stressful, and give you some extra time for yourself and your family!

Though primarily meant for nursing care students, this is a comprehensive, complete, and consistent set of A&P vocabulary that can be used by anyone whose occupation demands it or makes its knowledge an asset! Whether you want to comprehend or speak English at an advanced level, or you care very much about your or your family's health and want to speak to your therapists in their language and/or easily understand them, or you are a developer or software tester developing or testing medical software – this app is for you!
