Biofeedback during meditation can be helpful, especially in learning to quickly control ones autonomic nervous system responses. I use it in conjunction with Calm and Abide, as the guided meditations on these apps are are much better, and way more varried. However, the app crashes intermittently, which I find frustrating, it seems when I am having a good session. So what is the purpose of the expensive proprietary sensor if the app crashes?

I find the app to have some flaws and inconsistencies. If I follow the instructions with my breathing and focus, I'll often dip into the red. Yet if I'm distracted, ruminating, or thinking about something anxiety-inducing, it stays consistently green. Seems random. I wish there was a pause option and an option to adjust settings mid-session. There seems to be an issue with the rewards feature. Overall, I'm not sure I'm feeling any positive changes.

Some find it helpful to practice Quick Coherence first for a minute without the device - then attach it. That way you can ease into coherence without thinking about performance. Once you are used to the device, you may find it helpful in coaching you to refine your coherence. Check out the (free) HeartMath Experience program to practice.

I haved used this tool on and off for a couple years now - it has helped me at times, but also frustrated me. Overall it has not helped my feeling of well being more than say guided mindfulness meditation. It is misleading that the HRV graph in the app is not true HRV, i.e. RMSSD in milliseconds. So you can't compare it to HRV databases. Another concern is that when I remove the ear clip, the graphs in the app continue almost as they were with the clip on my ear! So is the data reliable?

Hi Jim - HRV =variation in the time interval between consecutive heartbeats. The graph reflects this. SDNN and RMSSD were early measures of HRV but are no longer referred to as HRV itself. The app continues when you are not wearing it is “ghosting” because our devices work at much higher sample rates (125 HRV readings per second vs 20 - 40 avr).

Critical crash fix.
