I spent over a year a duolingo, and did okay, but it got very frustrating. They started putting in chinese characters, which I hadn't studied so it got very frustrating! helloChinese has the same fun feel as duolingo but it has the ability to turn on and off Pinyan. The ability to get help on any word or sentence is great. The cultural context of the teacher chats is quite helpful too. After three days I just read a comic book page completely in chinese characters! Just try it!

This is the best free resource to learn Chinese. It's very customizable and beginner friendly. The only things I wish the devs would add are: An option to see/learn/write BOTH Traditional and Simplified characters at the same time (extremely useful); Exercises that show you only characters that you have to transliterate into pinyin; Grammar exercises should be done sometimes with characters only (though not always!); And a more accurate character practice! Anki/Pieco are great supplements <3

Very, very in-depth Chinese language app. And super easy to follow the step-by-step approach to learning. Covers speaking, listening, grammar rules, pinyin (didn't even know what what was before this app), characters, reading, and writing, and more. Seems to have EVERYTHING you need. A "MUST check this out" app!!! Great job, guys!!!
