Buffalo Breed is an official digital reference catalog of India's 22 recognized indigenous buffalo breeds, developed jointly by ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes (CIRB), ICAR-Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute (IASRI), and ICAR-National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources (NBAGR).
The application provides a comprehensive, science-backed repository of breed-specific information including native tract, physical characteristics, coat colour, horn type, and body conformation. Each breed entry includes detailed production parameters such as milk yield, fat percentage, age at first calving, lactation length, and calving interval — sourced from peer-reviewed ICAR research.
The integrated photo gallery presents curated field photography from ICAR research stations across India. An interactive distribution map allows users to visualize the geographical spread and native tracts of each breed across Indian states.
Designed for farmers, veterinarians, livestock researchers, and agricultural students, the application serves as a unified platform for accessing and disseminating knowledge on India's indigenous bovine genetic resources — contributing to their documentation, conservation, and sustainable utilization.
