About this app

IDK Can You? is tool for K-12 teachers that handles digital hall passes and device checkouts. It is built for school staff who want less friction, not more.

Hall passes
Students tap their own name on the kiosk to leave and again to come back. No teacher approval queue, no waiting at the desk, no interrupting the lesson. Teachers see live status on the dashboard.

What sets it apart:
- Student-driven kiosk with waitlist queueing. Students sign themselves in and out. Teachers stay teaching.
- Time limit caps. Set a maximum pass duration. Passes that run over the limit flag automatically.
- Auto-banning. Repeat offenders are temporarily blocked from the kiosk without anyone having to manually intervene.
- Class period scheduling. Kiosks only accept passes during periods you configure. After-bell taps are rejected automatically.
- Live hallway signage. Run a passive display in the hallway or office showing who is out and for how long.

Device checkouts
Built for 1:1 classrooms where the teacher manages a shelf of iPads or Chromebooks. Library-style: students scan a barcode to take a device, scan again to return it. The dashboard shows who has what and what is left on the shelf.

What sets it apart:
- Pool, permanent, and loaner tracking. Each device type lives in its own bucket so device counts stay correct even when a student is juggling a loaner.
- Library-style scan flow. One scan to check out, one scan to return. Works on phones, iPads, and barcode wedges.
- Quick return. Mass-return devices at the end of the day with a single scan per device.
- Log damages: Keep logs of lost, stolen, or damaged devices and see who last checked them out.

Built for school staff, not students
School staff sign in with Google. Students never log in. Student names are encrypted at rest. Student IDs are one-way hashed. All data is scoped to your school.

What’s new

Kiosk mode has a way out. On a phone or tablet, press and hold the top left corner of any kiosk or display for about two seconds, then confirm. No more force quitting the app. The gesture stays invisible to students, and a one time note shows you where to hold.

Settings now rotates your kiosk and display links together, with one button.

Custom room links are retired. If you set one, it no longer works: use the links shown in Settings.
