JioShield: Parental controls for screen time, location & child safety

Every parent wants the same thing — to know their child is safe and growing up well in a world increasingly lived through a screen. JioShield (Kids) makes that a little easier. Working hand-in-hand with the JioShield module inside the parent's JioThings app, it helps you gently guide your child's digital habits — shaping healthy screen time and letting new apps in only with your nod — while offering real peace of mind through live location, safe-zone alerts, and one-press SOS help when it matters most. And because trust should go both ways, this app is never hidden from the child — so safety feels like support, not surveillance.

This app installs on your child or teen's device — not on a parent's phone.

Getting started:
• Open JioThings on your own device and set up the JioShield module.
• Install JioShield (this app) on your child's device.
• Enter your child's number in JioThings and request an OTP to link the two devices.

Shape a rhythm of screen time for school, sleep, and play — with a gentle warning before time runs out, and room for your child to ask for a little more when it genuinely matters.

A home screen you've already said yes to
Every new app waits for your nod before it's available, so your child explores and discovers inside boundaries you've set with care.

Always know where they are
See where your child is right now, and retrace their last 30 days if you ever need to. Mark the places that matter — home, school, tuition — and know the moment they've arrived safely.

A phone that's never truly lost
Missing under a cushion or left at a friend's house — one tap makes it ring, even on silent.

There, the second it matters most
If your child ever feels unsafe, help is one press away. Their exact location and an urgent alert reach you instantly — breaking through silent mode and Do Not Disturb. If other channels can't reach you in that moment, JioShield also sends an SMS alert to the parent, so the message still gets through.

No more guessing why they've gone quiet
A simple low-battery alert means a dead phone never turns into an anxious hour of unanswered calls.

Your child can see how much screen time is left, ask for a new app or contact to be added, and reach out for help with a single press whenever they feel unsafe.

The permissions we use, and why
We ask for only what's needed to keep the promises above — nothing more.
• Access Contacts — to let parents whitelist trusted contacts for the child's calls
• Monitor Phone Calls — to allow calls only from whitelisted contacts
• Access Location — to show the child's location to the parent
• Background Location — to keep location tracking and geo-fence alerts working even when the app isn't open
• App Usage — to enforce screen time limits and detect which apps the child is using
• Call Screening — to identify and act on calls from non-whitelisted numbers in real time
• Send SMS — to alert the parent by SMS during an emergency, if other channels can't reach them
• Uninstall Protection — so JioShield can't be removed from the child's device without the parent's approval
• Reliable Background Protection — to keep JioShield running continuously, so protections don't silently stop
