About this app

What happened here?

Lore turns Alaska into a story map. Hundreds of true stories are
pinned to the places where they happened, and you can only hear
them by going there.

Walk through downtown Anchorage and unlock tales from the 1964 earthquake, or a first-person account from last year about the outhouse races at Fur Rendezvous. Pull off at a turnout on the Seward Highway and hear about a near-fatal kayaking accident on the water below. Hike Mt. Augustine and hear a pilot's firsthand account of a harrowing takeoff from its slope.

Some stories are reported from historical archives. Others are firsthand, recorded by the Alaskans who lived them. Every story is narrated by a local person.

HOW IT WORKS

Open the app and you'll see a map. Story markers show you what's nearby. Walk, drive, or hike to a marker's location and the story unlocks automatically. Once unlocked, it's yours. Listen anytime, anywhere.

WHAT MAKES LORE DIFFERENT

• You have to be there. Stories unlock only when you physically arrive. No armchair listening. Your feet earn the content.

• Real people, real stories. Firsthand accounts from Alaskans alongside researched historical content. Not a museum audio guide. These are stories people actually tell.

• Built by locals, for Alaska. Hundreds of stories across Anchorage, Juneau, Fairbanks, Denali, Seward, Ketchikan, Skagway, and dozens of places in between. Every narrator is Alaskan. So is the founder.

• Human narrators only. Every story is voiced by a real person. Multiple narrators give each region its own character.

STORY TYPES

Reported: Scripted from historical archives, including a content partnership with the Anchorage Daily News. Local history you won't find in a guidebook.

Firsthand: Personal accounts recorded by the people who were there. The stuff that actually happened to real Alaskans in real places.
