About this app

MeshXi - also written Mesh Xi or MeshX - is a private messenger for when normal apps stop working. No account, no phone number, and it works with no internet at all.

No account, no phone number
There is no sign-up. On first open your phone makes a cryptographic key and a short random handle - that is your whole identity. No phone number, no email, nothing tying the app to who you are.

Works offline, over Bluetooth
With no network at all, MeshXi uses your phone's Bluetooth radio to find other MeshXi phones nearby and pass messages along, hop by hop. Text, voice messages and photos travel this way, and a photo too large for the radio is made smaller automatically so it still arrives. No servers, no mobile data.

Wi-Fi Direct and local Wi-Fi
Two phones on one Wi-Fi, or joined to each other over Wi-Fi Direct, send everything between themselves - messages, photos, videos and calls - with no internet and no server.

End-to-end encrypted
Messages, photos, documents and calls are sealed on your device and can only be opened by the person you are talking to. Our relay forwards bytes it cannot read.

Tor is built in, and stays on
When MeshXi uses the internet it goes through Tor, bundled inside the app, with nothing else to install. Nothing reaches the relay until Tor can carry it, so the relay never sees your IP. If your network blocks Tor's public entry points you can add a bridge, including obfs4 and Snowflake, whose programs ship inside the app.

Voice and video calls
Encrypted calls with a clear call screen - you always know whether it is voice or video, and whether the other phone is really ringing. On the same network the call goes straight there; otherwise through a relay that cannot read it, with your IP hidden. Shrink a call to a floating window and carry on.

Rooms
Create a room, share it with a link or a QR code, and set who may join, how long it lasts and who can invite. Rooms work over the internet and over Bluetooth.

Everything a messenger needs
- Read receipts you can trust: one tick sent, two delivered, blue when seen
- Typing indicator
- Photos, videos and documents, never uploaded to any server
- Voice messages, with playback speed
- Disappearing messages, with a timer both sides share
- Reply, forward, edit, react, pin and delete
- Mute any chat or room for 8 hours, a week, or until you turn it back
- Chat wallpapers, including handwritten notebook themes
- World Chat, a public room open to everyone

Built to be private, honestly
- Chats live in an encrypted database on your phone
- Panic delete erases the identity, the keys and every chat on the phone
- An identity nobody comes back to deletes itself: after 30 days without opening MeshXi the phone is wiped and a new identity made. You pick the window, or turn it off
- Block screenshots and screen recording of the app
- Voice disguise changes how your voice sounds. It is not a promise that somebody who knows you will not recognise it
- No ads. No analytics. No tracking SDKs of any kind.

Safety in the public room
Report any post or block any person from World Chat. Reported posts are removed for everyone, blocked people vanish from your view, and you can unblock from Settings.

Honest about limits
Emergency SOS broadcasts your location and a help signal to your contacts and nearby MeshXi phones. It is not a replacement for emergency services - call your local emergency number if you can.

Bluetooth reaches tens of metres, further when other MeshXi phones are in between to pass a message along. It carries text, voice notes and photos, but not video or calls - those need Wi-Fi or the internet.
