Groat is a voice expense tracker: say what you spent and it's filed. An expense tracker and budget log with no account and no bank linking — your voice stays on your phone. Speak it at the counter, claim it at tax time.
Picture the moment: you're standing at the counter with a receipt in one hand. Hold the button and say it the way you'd say it out loud — "forty bucks of lumber for the Henderson deck" — and Groat turns that into a row: amount, category, job, date.
Or type it. Or fill the form in yourself. All three go to the same place.
NO ACCOUNT, NO BANK LINKING
There is nothing to sign up for. Groat never asks for banking credentials and cannot read your transactions. Your expenses live in a database on your phone.
YOUR VOICE STAYS ON YOUR PHONE
Speech is turned into text by your phone's own recognition. The audio is never recorded, uploaded or stored by us.
WHAT'S FREE
Twenty entries a month and one CSV export a month. Free entries are read by a parser that runs entirely on your device — it picks out the number and a category, and you fill in the rest. Nothing about the expense leaves the phone. Free costs us nothing to run, which is why it has no ads and no catch.
WHAT PRO ADDS
Pro is a subscription, and the difference is what reads your sentence. On Pro, the words you spoke or typed are sent to our server and come back with the amount, currency, category, vendor, job and date already filled in — the parts a local parser can't get from one line of plain English.
Pro also gives you:
- Unlimited entries
- Receipt photos attached to any expense
- Unlimited CSV exports, this month or your whole history
- This month's spending broken down by category and by job
ANYTHING IT CAN'T READ, IT KEEPS
A line Groat couldn't make sense of is saved as it was said, not thrown away or guessed at. You can retry it later.
WHEN YOU'RE DONE
Export a CSV and share it straight to your accountant or a spreadsheet. Settings has a Delete all my data control that removes the database, the receipt photos, the exports and everything else the app holds.
At most one reminder a day, and never between 10pm and 8am.
Parsing on Pro is done by an AI model, and you can report anything it returns from inside the app.

What’s new
Bug fixes. When voice input fails, Groat now says what actually fixes it instead of claiming your phone has no speech recognition. Tap the Version row in Settings seven times to open a voice diagnostics screen.
