About this app

Some networks, usually WiFi, will require you to login again after short periods of inactivity.

This can be very disruptive if you are not actively using your connection, but still want to receive email or other push notifications when they arrive.

This app will periodically download a tiny file to indicate that your connection is still active.

THIS WILL NOT RECONNECT YOU TO THE NETWORK IF YOU ARE DISCONNECTED.

THIS WILL NOT HELP IF THE NETWORK TIMES YOU OUT FOR ANOTHER REASON.

Some networks have timeouts that are not based on inactivity. They could log you out at preset times, or for meeting a threshold of use. This app will not work for those cases.

Hard to say if this app actually works or not. I experience frequent drops on my network, seemingly as a result of my VPN. That hasn't ceased since installing this app. But, this app could use a UI, with some options that can be setup. One, an option to launch the app in the background at boot, and an option to set the frequency of the keepalive signal. As it stands, this app is as bare bones as it gets. At least it doesn't have ads, is free, and doesn't require any unnecessary permissions. ๐Ÿ‘

One or two minor issues on Samsung S22 Ultra, running Android 13 and OneUI 5.0. While the app installs OK there is no UI for the app and often, when touching the icon, nothing happens. I often need to touch the icon two or three times to install the service. Also, on one installation the permissions for notifications was denied, so I saw nothing until I allowed that permission. Not something the everyday user should have to do. However, when I did get the service to load it worked well.

First off, this is a service people not an app, it has no interface just actions, that don't work. Keep alive is supposed to keep your network alive by ensuring it doesn't disconnect regardless of the status of the network. Even if it dissappears it still should be waiting for it to pop back up and keeping the SSID in the list so it doesn't have to go through looking for it again when it does reappear but this app doesn't have it either. Perhaps add an interface that shows the SSID and things?
