Absence of a zoom feature (in any crossword app for mobile devices) is a substantial oversight which renders the app practically useless on many small screen devices. Id10ts who say "just get a pair of glasses" are themselves shortsighted (there are reasons why this app languishes behind almost all others in ratings). Let's hope there are none of those people on the development team.
Great app. I use it daily and it is worth the price. Only 2 issues or concerns. 1) Need a zoom function for the Sunday puzzle. My tired eyes struggle with the font on Sundays. 2) Most concerning is the link to the Wordplay blog. It is very helpful and enlightening to see the hints and constructors comments. But as I only pay for the Crossword app and not the full NY Times mes, I am limited to only 10 articles before being blocked. As I said I have paid for the full Crossword experience, and it seems to me that access to the the Wordplay blog should be available for every puzzle I have paid for.
I have been a paid subscriber of the NYT crossword for many years. I have chosen to play the crossword in the apps of my choice, especially Standalone Crosswords. Recently, NYT has decided to prevent its paying subscribers from using the puzzles we are paying for by blocking apps such as Standalone from access to the puzzle and forcing customers to use this crappy app instead. I don't understand why - this isn't ad supported free content. It's content that I pay for. Is the NYT just scared that people who use an app that supports other crosswords will learn about the other high quality paid crosswords these days (American Values Club, Fireball, etc) and stop subscribing to their admittedly far less consistently high quality puzzles? Please allow your paying customers to play on whatever app they like again if you want us to renew our subscriptions.
I really want to love this app, but its performance is too awful. It is regularly slow to load and update, frequently freezing when clues reference one another or when opening archived puzzles. Nearly every time I open it, I have to wait 5-10 seconds before being able to type or switch clues. There's no good reason for the app to perform this poorly - it needs a rewrite.
I love the app but was only able to use during a trial period. I pay for the NY Times but my account logs in through Facebook. I'd really like to be able to use my paid account but can't until the app supports logging in through Facebook. Please add this functionality
Best Crossword app and it's the NYTimes! I spend every free moment doing a Monday crossword. I'm going to move up to Tuesday soon. Thank you for this great app and the puzzles you make available.
Thanks for continuing to test our new app, here's what's new in version 1.0.8 (284)
