HOW IT WORKS

Create a Ritual in seconds:
▸ Pick the apps that pull you in (social media, games, news: you know the ones)
▸ Choose a focus soundscape
▸ Set a timer and a difficulty level
▸ Tap once to start

When your Ritual is running, blocked apps are replaced by a warm shield screen: not an error, not a lecture, just a gentle "not right now." Meanwhile, your focus soundtrack plays in the background, giving your brain something to land on.

HOW NOISEBLINDERS BLOCKS APPS (ACCESSIBILITY SERVICE)

To show the shield the instant you open an app you chose to block, Noiseblinders uses Android's AccessibilityService API. You are asked for this permission in plain language before anything is enabled, and the app explains why at the moment it asks.

Exactly what the service does:
▸ It tells Noiseblinders only which app just came to the foreground, nothing more
▸ It does NOT read screen content, the text you type, passwords, or anything you do inside any app
▸ It does NOT record, collect, transmit, sell or store this information. The check happens on your device and nothing leaves it
▸ It is used for one purpose only: noticing that a blocked app opened during a Ritual you started yourself, so the shield can be shown

Why this API: it is the only way Android reports a foreground app change in real time. We tried the narrower UsageStatsManager API first, but it only reports usage in delayed batches, which is far too slow to put a shield up before you're already scrolling.

You grant this permission yourself, and you can withdraw it at any time in Android Settings → Accessibility → Installed apps (or Downloaded apps) → Noiseblinders. Blocking simply stops working; nothing else in the app is affected.

THREE DIFFICULTY MODES

Normal: end your session whenever you want. No pressure.
Timeout: want to quit early? You'll wait a few seconds first. Just enough friction to let the impulse pass.
Deep Shield (Pro): the session runs until the timer ends. For the days when you need the guardrails all the way up.
