A tribute to the field watch that half the world buys as its first automatic, rebuilt as a standalone Wear OS watch face. Three hands, a running seconds hand and the day-date window at 3 o'clock, on the honest matte dial that made this watch a classic.
HOW TO READ THIS DIAL
The big numbers around the outside are MINUTES: 5, 10, 15 and so on up to 55. The small numbers inside are the HOURS, 1 to 12. That double scale is exactly how the original is printed, and it is what makes the watch so quick to read once you know it. Nothing here is a mistake or a decoration.
COLORWAYS
• Black: the original matte black field dial with pale grey printing
• Green: the military green dial, cream printing, the one that reads best in daylight
• Navy Blue: the deep navy dial with an ice blue triangle at twelve
FEATURES
• A REAL DAY-DATE WINDOW at 3 o'clock: the day of the week on the left and the day of the month on the right, and both change on their own. Every one of the 31 dates and 7 weekdays is its own drawing, so the window looks printed, not typed
• A RUNNING SECONDS HAND with its red tip, sweeping in steps like the watch it copies. It is a real seconds hand, not a decoration that never moves
• THE WHOLE PRINTED DIAL kept as it is: the outer minute track with its lume dots, the inner hour numerals, the triangle at twelve, the SEIKO 5 shield and the AUTOMATIC 21 JEWELS line
• Applied faceted hands in pale luminous cream, the same on all three dials, over the centre cap
• Always-On Display friendly: the dial, the window and the seconds hand hide and only the hour and minute hands are left on black, around 4.9% lit pixels, far below Play's 15% limit. The seconds drop out on purpose: in ambient the screen refreshes once a minute and a frozen seconds hand looks broken
• Standalone: no phone or companion app required
• Built with Watch Face Format for smooth performance and long battery life
WHAT THIS FACE DOES NOT HAVE
No chronograph, no subdials, no step counter, no heart rate ring and no complications. The SNK809 does not have them and neither does this face. What you see is the watch.
HOW TO CUSTOMIZE
Long-press your current watch face and tap Edit, then pick Black, Green or Navy Blue. The whole watch changes together: dial, hands and the day-date window.
COMPATIBILITY
Wear OS 5 and later, round displays. No blend modes are used, so it is not limited to 5.1 and runs on a wider range of Wear OS 5 devices.
Note for dual-chip watches (OnePlus Watch 3 and similar): their Power Saver mode only runs the manufacturer's own built-in faces, so any third-party watch face works in Smart mode only and the watch will warn you when you apply it. That is how those watches are built.
