OpenJump lets you measure jumps using recorded or imported video. It began as a personal project: its creator wanted to track the progress of his own jumps without paying large amounts for specialized equipment.
It is not intended to replace a laboratory or promise 100% accuracy. OpenJump aims to provide an accessible, realistic approximation that can help you track your progress while keeping the limitations of manual video measurement in mind.
What can you do with OpenJump?
• Move through a video frame by frame and mark key jump events.
• Analyze protocols such as CMJ, SJ, Abalakov, single-leg jump, Drop Jump, and horizontal jump.
• View metrics such as height, flight time, velocity, contact time, or RSI, depending on the protocol.
• Record with the camera or import a video already stored on your device.
• Create athlete profiles and review measurement history.
• Export your data voluntarily in JSON or CSV format.
• Choose your language, metric or U.S. customary units, and a light or dark theme.
Everything stays on your device
OpenJump works offline and does not request Internet access. It requires no account and includes no advertising or analytics. Calculations and data are processed and stored locally. Imported videos remain in the location you selected. Information leaves the app only when you choose to export it or share it through another app.
Open-source software and accessible knowledge
OpenJump is an open-source project released under the GPL-3.0-or-later license. Its source code can be studied, audited, modified, and shared under the terms of that license. The project aims to make sports measurement and biomechanical knowledge more accessible, without hiding how results are calculated or turning the process into a black box.
About OpenJump Labs and the experimental Encoder
OpenJump Labs contains an experimental video-based Encoder prototype. This feature is gated behind a specific activation step because it is not considered stable or ready for general use.
Its usefulness and reliability have not been established. It remains under active development, may not work correctly with certain videos or exercises, and may produce incomplete or incorrect results. It must not be used as a substitute for a professional linear encoder or laboratory equipment. Its presence in the app does not mean that it will become part of the stable product, and it may never do so.
Important limitations
Results depend on factors including video quality and frame rate, camera position, manual frame selection, and calibration where applicable. They should be treated as general estimates for tracking progress, not as guaranteed exact measurements.
OpenJump is a sports performance support tool. It is not a medical, clinical, or diagnostic device.
