About this app

BitVoice turns speech into text entirely on your phone. No cloud, no account, no sign-up. The app ships without the Android internet permission, so it cannot send your voice or your text anywhere, even if it wanted to.

DICTATE IN ANY APP
• A floating bubble sits over your other apps. Tap it, speak, and your words are ready.
• Optional auto-paste puts the transcript straight into the field you were typing in.
• Or copy it with one tap and paste it yourself.

WORKS WITH NO SIGNAL
• Everything runs on the device: on a plane, underground, or in a dead zone.
• Nothing is uploaded, so nothing can leak. No analytics, no ads, no trackers.

CHOOSE YOUR OWN SPEECH MODEL
• A built-in catalogue lists more than 130 open speech models covering English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and many more, including one that spans over 1600 languages.
• Trade accuracy against speed: larger models transcribe more accurately, smaller ones are quicker on modest hardware.
• Live models show words as you speak. Batch models transcribe when you stop.
• Please note: because the app has no internet access, your browser downloads the model file and you import it into the app. The app never downloads anything itself. Models are large, so use Wi-Fi and expect a one-time setup step.

YOUR HISTORY, ON YOUR DEVICE
• Every transcript is saved locally and can be searched.
• Optionally keep the original audio, play it back, and choose how long it is kept.
• Delete a single entry or clear everything, whenever you like.

MADE TO FIT YOUR PHONE
• Material You theming picks up your wallpaper colours, in light and dark.
• Tap to start and stop, or press and hold to speak.
• Set the bubble size, icon and style, snap it to the edge, and let it tuck away when idle.

PERMISSIONS, AND WHY
• Microphone: to hear you. Audio is processed on the device and is never uploaded.
• Notifications: for the ongoing notification Android requires while recording.
• Display over other apps: optional, for the floating bubble.
• Accessibility service: optional, used only to insert dictated text into the field you are typing in. It reads nothing else and sends nothing anywhere. Leave it off and use copy and paste instead if you prefer.
• Ignore battery optimisation: so Android does not kill a recording when the screen turns off.

NO INTERNET PERMISSION
Most "offline" apps still hold the internet permission. BitVoice does not request it at all, which you can check for yourself in the permission list on this page.
