Planets Meditation can connect us to a world bigger than ourselves, and even our lives on earth. When we realize that our bodies and minds are a microcosm of the universe, we begin to feel more at peace and connected. The body is its own world within the larger world of the universe. We contain multitudes, mysteries, and complicated inner workings. Use this guided meditation whenever you’re feeling like you need to connect with a power higher than yourself or place yourself within the larger context of the universe. Feel free to change the words to suit your individual meditative needs.
Find a comfortable seated position or lie down on the floor. Begin to inhale and exhale, noticing the breath as it moves in and out of your body. Close your eyes and picture your body and its place in the room and the city that you’re in.
Begin to imagine the cells that make up your body, the whole universe of organs and blood and DNA. Inhale and exhale as you express gratitude for your body and mind and all of the functions that keep you alive.
Zoom out and imagine the cosmos, the whole sky filled with stars and planets and endless, beautiful space. Know that you are part of this intricate weave of stars. You are part of the universal pulse of life.
Look back at the earth from space and offer gratitude to the planet, stars, and spaciousness of which you are apart.
Bring your attention back to your breath and the present moment. Repeat this Planets meditation whenever you’re feeling lost, alone, or disconnected.
