About this app

We made The Phonics App for absolutely anyone who want to read using phonics.

You can learn the a-z sounds and how to blend two letter words completely free - but we hope you will subscribe to learn all the other sounds in the English language and practise with over 400 words.

Why did we make this app?

Jonny is a father of two and started making this app to teach his kids to read. It worked really well So he showed it to Claire (a teacher of phonics teachers and phonics influencer) to see if it would be useful to other people. She said yes, and had a lot of ideas how to make it better! So they spent AGES making 'The Phonics App' - and now it's finally done!

Great app overall, but I have one concern with the short 'o' sound in the free section. It pronounces 'o' as in 'no' (long vowel) instead of as in 'octopus' (short vowel), which is what young children need to learn first. This could confuse kids who are just starting to read. Please correct the short 'o' pronunciation. Otherwise, a very useful app!

This is a great app and very useful for phonics practice. My only concern is that the sounds are generated by a synthetic voice, which sometimes doesn’t capture the natural accuracy of human pronunciation. I recommend the developer record each sound with a real voice and use those instead. That would make the app even more effective and reliable.

This app is very useful, and I’m really glad I found your page. It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for to start teaching my 18-month-old about phonics. I just have one question - why did you use a cursive style for the letter “k”? It looks different, especially since children who are just starting to read are usually taught using manuscript or print letters.
