About this app
Contacts is an address book that keeps the people you know on your phone.
NO INTERNET PERMISSION
Most privacy claims are a promise. This app does not hold INTERNET permission, cannot open a network connection, and so this app cannot send your contacts anywhere.
There are no ads, no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting and no third-party SDKs of any kind. There is no account to create, no sign-in and no server behind the app. No Contact data leaves the device, unless you transfer it manually using another app or account.

WHAT IT ASKS FOR, AND WHY
Contacts: to read and write the contact database already on your device, and to show which account each contact is stored in so you can choose where new ones are saved. It does not ask for permission to list the accounts on your device.
It does not ask for sync permissions. Turning contact sync on or off is done in the system Settings app, which this app can open for you; the syncing itself is done by that account's own provider, not by this app.
Notifications and a data-sync foreground service: only for a vCard import or export that you start yourself, so a long transfer is not interrupted partway through.
It does not ask for your call log, messages, phone number, location, camera, microphone or files. It does not ask to see every app you have installed, to draw over other apps, or to use accessibility services. It is not a dialer or a messaging app and does not ask to become one. Cloud backup is switched off for this app, so its files are not copied off the device by the system either.
YOUR BACKUPS STAY YOURS
Automatic backups run daily or weekly, or not at all. They are plain vCard files written to this app's own private storage, where no other app can read them. Nothing is uploaded. If you want a copy elsewhere, export a vCard yourself and put it where you choose.

Contacts is released under the Apache License 2.0, and the complete source code is public. That is what makes the claims on this page checkable rather than something you have to take on trust: the absent internet permission is visible to anyone who inspects the manifest of the installed app, and the backup and app-lock code can be read line by line.
A contact manager should do one job, do it offline, and get out of the way. That is the whole idea of this app.
