Gallery is a modern, private home for the photos and videos stored on your Android device. Rebuilt with Material 3 design, it gives you a clean Photos tab, rounded album cards, light and dark themes, and Material You colors on Android 12 and later. Everything runs on your device: no account, no ads, no analytics, and no Internet permission.
A modern gallery
- Photos tab: every local photo and video in one grid, newest first.
- Albums tab: your device folders as rounded cover cards with item counts.
- Light and dark themes follow your system setting, with Material You dynamic color on Android 12+.
- Edge-to-edge layouts for phones and tablets, in portrait and landscape.
- Long-press to select several items, then share, delete, or choose another action.
- Clear empty and permission screens with a direct way to fix them. On Android 14+, use Select photos or Select more photos to limit what the app can see.
View and inspect
- Immersive full-screen viewer titled with the capture date and time.
- Share, Edit, Info, and Delete actions in a bottom row.
- Pinch to zoom, swipe between items, filmstrip mode, slideshow, and rotate.
- Details sheet with name, capture time, path, dimensions, megapixels, size, camera make and model, aperture, exposure, ISO, and focal length.
- Set a photo as wallpaper or print it through Android's print service.
- On Android 11+, deleting goes through the Android system confirmation dialog.
Edit on your device
- The built-in editor opens straight from the viewer.
- Looks: one-tap filter presets. Frames: decorative borders.
- Crop: crop, straighten, rotate, mirror, draw, curves, vignette, red-eye, and more, with presets including freeform, original, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 5:7, 7:5, and 16:9.
- Adjust: exposure, contrast, shadows, highlights, saturation, sharpness, vibrance, and more.
- Undo, redo, history, before-and-after compare, and export with size and quality options.
- Edits are saved as a new copy under Pictures or the original folder; the original stays untouched.
Play and trim video
- Built-in video player with Material controls: play/pause, 10-second skips, and a time bar.
- Trim a clip with precise handles and save it as a new file.
- Create a muted copy without leaving the app.
Organize and connect
- Home-screen widget showing an album, a single photo, or a shuffle.
- Acts as a photo and video picker for other apps that ask for one.
- Opens, edits, and crops images that other apps hand to it.
Private by design
- Works fully offline and does not request Internet access.
- No ads, accounts, analytics, telemetry, remote configuration, or tracking SDKs.
- Photos, videos, metadata, thumbnails, edits, and preferences stay on your device.
- Android backup and device-to-device transfer of private app data are disabled.
- Media leaves the app only when you deliberately share, print, or open it with another app you choose.
- The privacy policy and open source licenses are available from the app menu, even offline.
Why broad photo and video access?
A gallery must continuously display and manage the media library you authorize, not just files selected one at a time. Android's photo and video permissions power the Photos and Albums tabs, thumbnails, multi-select, slideshows, editing, video playback, trimming, deletion, and local organization. On Android 14 and later you can grant access to all media or only to selected items, and you can change that choice at any time in Android Settings.
Available in over 70 languages
The interface is translated into more than 70 languages and regional variants.
Open source
The application source is released under the Apache License 2.0. Bundled third-party components retain their own compatible licenses; their names, versions, and notices are listed under Open source licenses in the app menu.
Requires Android 6.0 or later.
