About this app

Your mail stays on your device and on your own mail server. None of it comes to us.

Postbox is a modern, open-source mail client for Android. It talks directly to your existing mailbox over IMAP, POP3 and SMTP. There is no PIKCN account to create, no PIKCN server in the middle, and no advertising, analytics or tracking code anywhere in the app.

A modernised email client
The interface around it has been rebuilt in Material 3, with a generated tonal palette, a true dark theme, and a two-pane layout that expands on tablets, foldables and Chromebooks.

Mail features
- Any IMAP, POP3 and SMTP provider, over TLS or STARTTLS
- Sign in to Gmail, Outlook.com and Microsoft 365 with OAuth, in the provider's own browser, so no password is ever typed into this app
- Automatic server settings for dozens of well-known providers, and full manual setup for everything else
- Several accounts at once, plus combined Inbox, Starred and Unread views across them
- Swipe to delete, with undo
- Star, mark read or unread, move between folders, empty the trash
- Reply, reply all, delete and undo straight from the notification
- Server-side IMAP search, and search within a folder
- Nested folders, and notification settings for each folder
- Attachments: view them, save them through the system file picker, share them out
- Compose with recipient autocomplete, attachments, per-account signatures and saved quick responses
- Per-account sync frequency, notification sound and vibration
- Home-screen folder widget, message printing, .eml file viewing and hardware-keyboard shortcuts
- 69 languages, with full right-to-left layouts

Privacy by construction
- No ads, no analytics SDK, no crash reporter, no advertising ID
- No PIKCN backend: the app connects only to your mail provider and, if you use OAuth, to your identity provider
- Remote images in messages are blocked until you choose to load them, so tracking pixels stay dark
- Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer are switched off, so mail and credentials are never copied off the phone
- Contacts access is optional and never leaves the device. It powers recipient autocomplete, search suggestions and sender photos, and the app works fine without it
- Mail, attachments and settings live in the app's private storage. Remove the account in Android Settings and all of it is deleted

Before you install
Exchange ActiveSync is not supported. Microsoft 365 and Outlook.com mailboxes connect over IMAP and SMTP, which your provider or administrator has to leave enabled. iCloud Mail needs an app-specific password rather than your Apple ID password.
