About this app

Ply is the chess clock that never misses a tap. Open it, tap a time, and play: two taps to a running game. The clock is free and has no ads. Ply Pro, which is optional, makes it a game timer for any board game too.

A CHESS CLOCK YOU CAN TRUST
• The switch happens the moment your finger lands, not when it lifts. Slap the whole half of the screen, with any number of fingers.
• The time never drifts and never jumps: every move is measured on the phone's own clock, not counted in ticks.
• The side to move is bright and the side that waits is dim, so you can see whose turn it is from across the room.
• At 10 seconds the clock turns red. Warnings at one minute, 30 and 10 seconds, a beep for each of the last 5, and an alarm when a flag falls.
• A click on every move, made so that fast bullet taps do not cut it off. Loud Sounds for a noisy room, and a light vibration on each switch.
• One small pause button in the middle, away from your hand. Turn on Hold to Pause, and a stray finger in blitz does not stop the game.
• Add or take away time for a penalty, take back the last tap, restart, or end the game.
• Upright, or on its side beside the board, like a real chess clock.

EVERY TIME CONTROL
• Bullet, blitz, rapid and classical presets: 1+0, 2+1, 3+0, 3+2, 5+0, 5+3, 10+0, 15+10, 30+0.
• Make your own chess timer: minutes and seconds, an increment, and its kind: Fischer, Bronstein or US delay. Save it as a tile.
• Time odds: give one player more time than the other.
• Keep Running After a Flag, for US Chess rules.

AFTER THE GAME
• A summary when a game ends: the time each side used, the average and the longest move, and a chart of the seconds for each move.
• Your games stay on your phone. No account, no ads, no tracking.

PLY PRO
• A board game timer for 2 to 8 players: names and colors, one tap passes the turn. Time bank, time per turn, or count up. A game timer for Catan, Scrabble, Rummikub, backgammon, wargames and more.
• Byo-yomi for Go and shogi: main time, then periods.
• The FIDE tournament control: 90 minutes for 40 moves, then 30 more, with 30 seconds a move.
• A mechanical chess clock in 3D: hands, a button that goes down, and a flag that falls.
• The OLED Black clock theme, wood-and-bell sounds, and a voice that says "one minute", "thirty seconds" and "ten seconds".
