About this app

Quiet (https://www.tryquiet.org) is an alternative to team chat apps like Slack, Discord, and Element that does not require trusting a central server or running one’s own. In Quiet, all data syncs directly between a team’s devices over Tor with no server required.

NOTE: Quiet is not audited and should not be used when privacy and security are critical. It lacks basic features and probably won’t replace your Slack or Discord yet. That said, it works surprisingly well and we use it daily as a Slack replacement.

Quiet is for fans of software freedom, decentralization and privacy tech, and for anyone craving a future where humanity can collaborate effectively online without trusting our communities, networks, and data to giant corporations.

Works and is an awesome idea. Two problems. Drains battery and uses data heavily. As for the platform, the top two things needed are multiple communities and the ability to kick a user out. A nice addition to this would be moderation mode where the owner can approve all posts before they go out. As far as the Android app, this needs a sleep feature where if you don't have the app open it will only come up for air once an hour, and also a setting where it will not use data if not on Wifi.

Thanks for the feedback and great suggestion re: reducing battery impact! We're also working on an (optional) push notification service that will eliminate the battery life issues you're seeing. I'm also interested in a mode where Quiet only stays in the p2p network when charging. Stay tuned!

Props to what's here already Drains battery (phone is getting hot). Joining a channel works, although the back button somehow still allows you to return to the main navigation where you initially enter the URL. Sometimes the app is stuck in a state where the messages aren't updating (notification says there is a message, but there is none in the channel). Sometimes sending messages silently fails (and eats your message). Both bugs only recover ater force stopping and restarting.
