About this app

The Rand McNally DriverConnect app allows users to:

• log duty statuses
• view engine metrics
• upload Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) and fuel receipts
• store location information of the route driven during a trip
• communicate with fleet personnel
• generate inspection report for safety officials

The Hours of Service (HOS) timers are visually represented together with logbook graph charts and gauges. The app provides helpful engine metrics collected by the Electronic Logging Device (ELD). The ELD plugs into a truck’s diagnostic port. The ELD sends the data collected from the engine to the app over a Bluetooth connection. The engine metrics displayed as gauges include: average fuel economy, coolant temperature, and boost pressure. Events such as hard braking and speeding are detected in near real time.

The app allows users to record, view, edit and track On Duty, Driving, Off Duty and Sleeper-Berth duty statuses in a logbook. The app supports US federal and intrastate HOS rule sets: US 8/70, US 7/60, TX, FL, OR, AK, WA, NY, WI, IL. The app also supports Canada cycle-1. Federal exemptions such as passenger carrying, oil and gas, construction material, motion picture, non-CDL drivers and agricultural operations are also supported. The app has provisions to annotate the driving times as personal conveyance and yard moves. HOS Logs from the app can be sent via email to safety officials during inspections.

The app helps drivers to create pre-trip and post-trip DVIRs. The app allows users to store images in DVIRs and also to store fuel receipts useful for filing IFTA reports. The app stores location information with duty status changes and transmits the position information to the DriverConnect portal to track and trace a vehicle. The location information is also provided in reports created to aid in IFTA filings.

The app automatically syncs with the Rand McNally DriverConnect portal via Wi-Fi or cellular networks, providing the most up-to-date reports. For a small subscription fee, users may access the Rand McNally DriverConnect web portal, where up to six months of HOS logs, DVIRs and fuel receipts can be stored. Fleet managers can administer, communicate, generate reports and may also view vehicle locations on a map using Rand McNally DriverConnect web portal.

The app allows drivers and fleet personnel to communicate via messaging. Fleet personnel can also send workflows to the drivers and drivers can update the fleet personnel using the Forms in the workflow. Drivers may choose to message the fleet safety personnel using standard Forms. The app provides receipt for ‘sent’ and ‘read’ messages.

The app is available on smartphones, tablets or Rand McNally TND™ tablets.

I have been trying to train 6 drivers how to use this trash. Every time I feel like we are making progress another bug causes confusion and aggravation. It is like I have to start over every trip with the training. The eld50 and Android package is not stable at all. I think RM should pay us for helping debug their app. Tech support does not answer emails. Hold time is usually forever. Something needs to improve FAST. OK So here it is 4 months later (Sept 21, 2018) and the app is no better than it was. Neither is the support. I have 8 drivers, and at least 3 of them have issues at all times. I get on the phone to tech support and stay on hold for 30 minutes then the line gets cut off so I have to start over. Latest issue has to do with going in to drive mode for no reason, or switching to drive mode from the sleeper mode. Always given the same solution, unplug and reset the ELD, wipe app data from the tablet, clear out bluetooth, and start over. And it never works. When a new version of the app comes out, it usually makes the situation worse. Latest version caused more issues. I wish there was a way to give it zero stars.

The app does the job, but it is needlessly annoying along the way...example: take a 10 hour reset not connected to the device? That is going to be about a 1 hour reconnect time. Dont have a good phone signal? Good luck with status changes, logging off, or certifying logs...ive had service for over a year now. At the start i was thinking "its new they will iron it out"....still waiting. Almost appears as though they are more concerned about the $ than have a product that works practically.

Pretty much works like it should, only downside I've seen is going on personal conveyance it put me on driving, while going to my destination. I'm assuming I lost signal at some point, but there should be a fail safe to prevent that from happening. I was able to get a log correction done so no worries, but it shouldn't be an issue... That wouldn't happen on paper.
