About this app

STORIES FROM THE EDGE

TooFar Media publishes stories by Rich Shapero that test the limits of mind. His protagonists are seekers adrift in a sea of dreams, a domain of illusion and startling vision. They encounter strange gods and unearthly presences, conjured from within or appearing with a mission that cannot, at first, be understood. Their thoughts, like their author’s, are warped toward a state that is different than the one we’re born into—a state more profound, where the truths of our practical world unravel and reveal themselves as the illusions they are. Like the seekers themselves, readers grapple with surprising ideas about human potential.

TooFar Media is also a creative sandbox. Each of our sixteen titles is both a novel and a multimedia experiment combining book, music, art, animation, and video. We have a small core team and dozens of collaborators—writers, musicians, artists, animators, and people with knowledge meaningful to our stories.

What I had hoped would be (as advertised) an immersive world of engaging stories turned out to be a poorly coordinated blend of banal new age music, uninteresting abstract images, and a series of amateur and mediocre short stories. To make matters worse, actually trying to "immerse" oneself in these stories (combining the art & music with the reading) is next to impossible, since the controls to browse through the pages are awkward and clumsy, and often useless if the app becomes stalled. While simply trying to read one page after another, I somehow got detoured and the app forced me to listen to a song or view a gallery of the art. Getting back to the story wasn't helpful, because I had no way of marking the page from which I could resume reading.

Great idea with incredibly poor execution. Having the audio and art accompany a story was very appealing to me. But the amount of problems with the app are unreal. The text for the books, no matter what font size you use, cuts off the end of every line, missing up to 2 words per line. This alone makes the books unreadable. I thought I would try the next installment, maybe it would work better? Nope. After installing, the words didn't even appear on the pages and the audio wouldn't play. Terrible
