When hail arrives, you have just a few minutes to shelter your car. Hail Shelter starts from your location and tells you where to go, sorting the shelters by real convenience: not just the closest, but the one that truly protects you without making you cross half the city.
WHAT IT FINDS
- Underground and multi-story parking lots (full protection)
- Garages and garages
- Covered parking lots and carports
- Petrol station shelters
- Tunnels, underpasses, and bridges, marked as only partially protected
HOW IT WORKS
1. Press a single button: the app reads your location and searches within the chosen radius, from 1 to 10 km.
2. View the sorted list, with the actual distance and protection level of each shelter.
3. Tap "Take me here" to open your usual navigation system, or "Open on map" to see the location's profile.
HAIL RISK
The app also checks the forecast: if hail is occurring or expected in the next few hours, it tells you at the top of the screen, so you know if you need to act immediately or if you have time.
NO FRILLS
- No account, no registration
- No advertising
- No personal data collected: your location is only used to perform the search and is not saved on any server.
- There's nothing to configure when you open the app: just a button.
DATA SOURCES
Shelters are sourced from OpenStreetMap (OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL license) via the Overpass API. Weather forecasts are sourced from Open-Meteo. The data is provided by third parties and may be incomplete, inaccurate, or out of date: always check on-site that the shelter exists, is accessible, and that parking is permitted.
IMPORTANT WARNING
Underpasses, tunnels, and bridges are not parking areas: stopping may be prohibited and dangerous, and should never be done on the road. The app does not replace Civil Protection instructions or the Highway Code. Drive carefully: no shelter is worth an accident.
Find the nearest covered parking lot to park your car in case it hails.
