About this app

Set the Scene....

Turn films, television, games and apps into a room-filling lighting experience with SceneGlow.

SceneGlow analyses colours around the edges of your Android TV screen and transforms them into responsive lighting across your room. Your television backlight, wall lights and other compatible colour lighting can react in real time, extending the mood and movement of each scene beyond the screen.

Unlike a simple single-strip Ambilight-style setup, SceneGlow can coordinate multiple WLED devices and compatible colour lights through Home Assistant. Different lights and lighting zones can be mapped to different areas of the screen, creating a more immersive and balanced effect throughout the room.

FEATURES

• Real-time screen-reactive ambient lighting
• Support for multiple WLED devices
• Home Assistant integration for compatible colour lights
• Configurable screen regions and lighting zones
• Different lights can react to different parts of the screen
• Adjustable brightness, saturation, colour balance and smoothing
• Configurable edge depth, black threshold and capture resolution
• Fast local-network lighting updates
• Built-in setup, testing and diagnostics
• Remote-friendly Android TV interface
• Start, stop and adjust lighting directly from your television
• Local processing with no stored or uploaded screen images

HOW IT WORKS

SceneGlow captures the visible screen using Android’s MediaProjection system, samples colours from configured areas, and sends only the resulting lighting instructions to your WLED and Home Assistant devices over your local network.

Screen images are processed temporarily in memory. They are not saved, recorded or uploaded to the developer.

CONTENT COMPATIBILITY

Some streaming services and apps protect video using DRM or secure video surfaces. Android does not make protected content available to screen-capture apps, so SceneGlow may be unable to detect those colours. Lights may remain dark, use a fallback colour, or react only to visible controls and subtitles.

Compatibility varies by Android TV device, Android version, app and video format. Local, non-protected SDR content generally provides the most reliable results. HDR10 and Dolby Vision colours may not exactly match the final image shown by the television.

REQUIREMENTS

• Compatible Android TV or Google TV device
• Local network access
• One or more configured WLED devices and/or compatible colour lights connected through Home Assistant
• Network access between the TV device and lighting systems
